Unemployment in the Philippines dropped to 6.3 percent at the end of October, according to data released Tuesday by the National Statistics Office. The rate was 1.0 percent lower than at the end of October in 2006, and 1.5 percent lower than the rate at the end of the quarter ending July 2007.
The employment rate improved to 93.7 percent, up from 92.7 percent one year earlier.
A total of 35.9 million residents were employed in October, representing approximately 63 percent of the country's labor force.
Nearly half of those employed were in the services sector, 36.1 percent were in agriculture and the remainder were in the industrial sector.
