Naka suway na jud ko, Ms Happy...mao na leksyon na jud ko.
Right after I graduated, I applied for a medrep job with Glaxxo-SmithKline in Cagayan de Oro.
We were put through a number of tests and interviews, from the hundreds of applicants we were narrowed down to 10 prospective employees.
For the final interview, the big boss came to CDO from Mla and set up individual interviews with the 10 of us, unya duha ra ming girls nahabilin. I really wanted that job
bad. On the big day though, I did the
unthinkable. I was
fifteen minutes late!
I didn't get the job, of course. Biggest heartbreak of my "career"...career kuno!
I was in Davao City, fresh from college when I submitted my application to then Northern Mindanao Development Bank which was later bought by Equitable PCIB. The Head Office was in Cagayan de Oro so I went there for the interview. My first job interview. It was so daunting. The office was huge and beautiful and the aircon was so, so cold I could hardly talk! I was already interviewed by all the Top Management except for the President because he was in Manila for a Board Meeting. I waited for another day.
Anyway, the Vice President in his interview to me asked me what if I got the job and somebody offers me a job in Davao. Would I take the job in Davao? Nah, naive and honest as I was, I said, Yes. We became friends later but he told me I failed in that interview. Good thing the rest of the top management gave me their okay.
Then came the big boss. I was directed to the Office of the Managing Director which was also the President. The room was even colder or maybe I was just so nervous. First he asked me, what was my weakness and I answered right away this: My weakness is eating peanuts! hahahahahhaha Later I swear I could kick myself with my silly answer! Then he asked me, who is your best friend and why? Whew, I didn't have a bestfriend then so I said, God is my bestfriend because wherever I go, whatever I do, however I feel, he is just right there for me. He looked at me like he wanted to smile but he stifled it. Then he said, thank you for dropping by! I was thinking to myself, what do you mean dropping by? I travelled all the way from Davao City, all 8 hours of bumpy road and that's dropping by? hahahah Anyway, I got the job. And worked their for good 10 years!
