(AHN) - Taiwan has stopped issuing work visas to Filipinos applying for jobs as helpers for Taiwanese households, the Philippine Star reported on Tuesday.
A group of local agencies that recruit Filipino household helpers for Taiwan said the refusal of the Taiwan Economic Cultural Office to issue visas to two Philippine labor attaches in Taiwan caused a 20 percent drop in the deployment of such workers to the island-state.
Jackson Gan, President of the Pilipino Manpower Agencies Accredited to Taiwan (PILMAT), said only 4,000 Filipinos were hired as household helpers in Taiwan in the past two months. Gan claimed that the Taiwanese government is intentionally delaying the issuance of working visas to Filipinos in protest to Manila's "no placement fee" policy.
