No More Retirement
« on: September 08, 2010, 10:18:44 AM »
Nearly three quarters of people believe retirement as we currently understand it will not be possible in the future, a BBC Newsnight poll has suggested.

Some 70% of the 1,000 asked thought it would not be feasible for people to stop work then live on a pension for up to 30 years, the ComRes survey found.

Some 72% of those in work were also worried about not having the funds to live as they would like in retirement.

More than three quarters (77%) thought younger people would get a worse deal.

And more than half (54%) thought it was unfair that younger generations would be worse off than those currently approaching retirement age.

Pension changes

The poll of a cross section of adults this month follows a number of changes to retirement announced by the previous and current governments against a backdrop of an ageing population and public spending cuts. - BBC

This is a prognosis, we think so much about money, so we are forced to work longer, here in Germany they are planning to extend the retirement age to 67.

With people living longer useful lives, the gradual extension of the retirement age seems to me to be a perfectly sound idea.

With so many of my ex-colleagues dropping dead shortly after their retirement date, I wonder whether no retirement is actually the healthy option for workaholics.

An American white nurse retired when she reached 65 years of age then 5 years later
she went back to work as a result of financial plunged of their business then
the recession caused a downfall of stocks and she lost  her investment again...
She is now 85 years old and has to keep working with me...and so grumpy because of
these recent changes to computerized system in the  hospital...anyway,
they say that old dogs still can learn new tricks... ;D

My husband always joke about he want our sons grow so fast so they will take over the farm and he can retire. The community were we belong are mostly retiree collecting all kinds of pension like military pension,SSS pension, job pension who knows  plus rent from the farm. Spend six months here and six months down south.Someday I wanna be like the neighbor lady who always tour in her rented farm demanding all roadside will be mowed and both collecting Social Security benefits, life insurance and rent from the ground.
