A woman here lost P158,965 after falling prey to a text message scammer who used a get-rich-quick modus operandi in this city.
Lily Narag complained to the police that a message sender, who pretended to be her daughter working abroad, had sent her information that her investment on prepaid cards would triple in the guise of having a legitimate load franchise selling scheme.
She immediately withdrew money from her bank account and initially bought 137 prepaid cards and texted the pin codes to the sender. She also sent subsequent card loads in the pretext that these are needed for the loading business.
She later learned that she was duped after she sent all the prepaid cards on January 19 and could no longer contact the SIM card of the sender.
When she called her daughter’s original mobile phone number abroad, she was surprised to learn that her daughter never used another SIM card and never sent messages proposing for a SIM card loading business.
