“Terror groups still strong” - PNP chief says
Published: November 26, 2006 by The Bohol Standard

Terrorist organizations remain strong despite government counter-insurgency efforts, Philippine National Police Director (PNP) General Oscar Calderon acknowledged Wednesday.

SPEAKING before more than a hundred local government and police officials from all over the country at the National Forum on Internal Security, Calderon said the Communist Part of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) still aims to launch more ambuscades and raids to seize more firearms.

Midyear statistics showed the CPP-NPA’s strength at 7, 260. Of these, 6,050, or 80 percent, are armed, Calderon said.

The PNP chief also worried that, unless revived, the stalled peace talks between the government and Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) could lead to attacks on bridges and communication lines, and the sabotaging of government facilities.

The 11,150-strong MILF has 8,170 firearms, he said.

He added that the Abu Sayyaf might soon carry out terror attacks such as the bombing of commercial areas and the seizure of commercial shipping vessels to trade for the freedom of captured comrades.

Earlier, DILG Secretary Ronaldo Puno ordered barangays officials to comply with the Local Government Code on listing and monitoring of all residents in their respective areas. This will help prevent terrorism and insurgency problems in their areas.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
