As though the scandals hounding the Nursing Licensure Examinations (NLE) are not enough, here comes another one. According to a university dean, the ill-fated NLE was tainted with a leak not only in Luzon but also in Visayas and Mindanao.

Now, this is even more painful to the board exam passers in the south. It means that contrary to the arguments of those who opposed the decision of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo for a retake, the leak was wider than initially reported.

It will be recalled that those in the Visayas and Mindanao regions have opposed the retake order, pointing out that the irregularity was discovered only in two subjects and only in Luzon. As logic goes, why punish the innocent along with the guilty.

Unfortunately for them, this latest revelation casts doubts on such claim because it seems that aside from the review centers that were initially dragged into the scandal, there are new names that offered review classes to Visayas and Mindanao reviewees.

This is certainly not saying that most of the examinees in the region benefited from the leak. It means that unless the guilty ones are identified and prosecuted, all the examinees have been placed under a cloud of doubt.

We can only commiserate with the innocent board passers whose only fault, if it can be called as such, was to take the board exams at the same time that the leak was discovered and exposed.

And yet, there are incidents in this world that we all must deal with regardless of whether we want to or not. It is no longer a question of how much suffering the scandal has subjected the innocent ones and certainly no longer an issue on how much they have suffered in its wake.

The point here is for the board passers to realize that there are times in life when the innocent does get punished with the guilty. If they want to move on as they are expected to, the best thing to do will be to get it over and done with.

Now, this may be painful for those who are affected but this is how the cookie crumbles. Except for those who look at the issue with colored glasses, the only way for the affected passers to erase all doubts is to pass the board exams again.

This is certainly an agonizing experience, but it is not the end of the world. They can choose whether to come out of it better or bitter. In case they miss the news, the most successful people in this world did not arrive unscathed.

Indeed, the only closure for this issue is to settle it on the examination table.

John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.
