Hon. Jose Echavia Veloso, a lawyer by profession, started his career as Municipal Census Assistant from 1975 until 1980. He later became a Legal Officer of the Department of Public Works and Highways from 1981 up to 1987.

He entered politics in 1988 where he ran and won as Maribojoc town Mayor, a position he
served for ten uninterrupted years until 1998. When his term expired, he ran as Vice Mayor
and served as such from 1998-2001.

During the electoral exercise in 2001, he threw his hat for a seat in the Provincial Board and landed second of three winners in the first district of Bohol. He ran for reelection in May and
this time he landed first.

Board Member Veloso is a member of various organizations like the Gamma Beta, the IBP-
Bohol Chapter, the Provincial Board Members’ League of the Philippines, the Active Tennisters
of Maribojoc, among others. But the active lawmaker is famous for his being a lover of music
and a composer at that, not to mention his very famous novelty songs aired on the radio.

He has to his name a number of seminars to include: Executive Forum for Effective Public Administration, Effective Local Legislation, Conference Workshop for Peace and Development, Regional Peace and Order Summit, Local Managers’ Course, and Development Legislation.

BM Veloso is the chairman of the committees on Good Government; and, Natural Resources
and Environmental Protection. He is the vice chairman of the committees on Labor and Employment; Public Works, Highways and Related Infrastructure; and, Youth and Sports Development. He is a member of the Committees on Rules; and, Review of Municipal
Ordinances and Related Issuances.

Board Member Veloso was born in Poblacion, Maribojoc, Bohol on December 17, 1948. He is
the youngest and only son among the five children of Wenceslao G. Veloso and Anacleta Echavia.

The young Jose attended the Maribojoc Central Elementary School from 1954 to 1959.
He studied and finished High School at the Saint Vincent Institute in Maribojoc from 1959 to 1963. He then pursued college studies at the Divine Word College (now Holy Name University) majoring in Liberal Arts from 1963 until 1966. His strong ambition to become a lawyer drove
him to study Bachelor of Laws at the Manuel L. Quezon University-College of Law which he finished in 1971.

“Dodong,” as what BM Veloso is fondly called is married to the former Esterlita Solomon with whom they have (7) seven childrens: Mayette, Maribay, Jereniel, Jedfrey, Marian, Jesthony,
and Marivel.
