Who Would Have Thought An iPod Would Save Lives? - Well, not save them literally, but helping a lot in the process
By: Anca Rusu, Technology Editor - Softpedia

Who thought that the famous iPod will serve for something else besides listening to music, watching movies or reading books?

Well, it seems that the iPod can also save lives in its unique way… You can listen to your favorite tracks while someone else is trying to save you.

Two Tasmanian miners - Brant Webb, 37, and Todd Russell, 34 – were given two iPods and a camcorder after being trapped in a tunnel. It seems that several stones tumbled down and closed their way out of the mine.

The rescuers drilled through 12m of rock in order to reach the two men. However, the first thing they did was to place an access pipe which served for delivering food, water, nutritional drinks, vitamins, dry clothes, space blankets, glow sticks, magazines and… two iPods and a camcorder.

"They remain in good health and have now received iPods so they can listen to their favorite music," Beaconsfield Gold Mine manager Matthew Gill said.

After being trapped in the mine for several days, the two Tasmanians are now safe and sound in their homes … maybe listening to music coming from their beloved iPods.
