The painting currently hangs on Louvre Museum in Paris. It is set behind a wall of Bulletproof glass and watched over by armed guards.

So what's all the fuss about?

"There's no reason for it", said Frank Fehrenbach, Renaissance expert and professor of art history at Harvard University."It is a beautiful portrait, but only historical coincidences have made it so famous."

The Romantic Movement in the 19th century had a lot to do with popularizing the work, Fehrenbach said.

"Romantic writers created the popular image of the "Mona Lisa". Because of her bemused smile, "they said she must hold secrets, that she was the quintessential "femme fatale". With all of these new ideas about the Renaissance being discussed, the "Mona Lisa' became the symbol of that".

Istorya ilawom sa dagat ra nang ilaha. They know how to create gimmicks. Mas gwardiado pang BPI sa Tagbilaran o di ba ICM kay naa pay duha ka security guards... kaysa Louvre or Mona Lisa. Camera nuon siguro somewhere pero wala may gwardia. Ayaw sakay sa gimmick. Pros and cons of Mona Lisa is all propaganda to keep luring the 600 million tourists kada tuig. Sus Ginoo pilay bayad kung mosud sa Museum unya in POUNDS pa jud!!! Brayt jud ni sila basta for profit na gani. You should read the history why everything is massive in Paris hehehehe.  ;)

Beautiful. This was the painting by Jacques-Louis David. The title is:

"Consecration of the Emperor Napoleon I and Coronation of the Empress Josephine in the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris on 2 December 1804"

TOTAL SECURITY SOLUTIONS:

One of the world's most famous women was let out of her bulletproof case this week: The Mona Lisa. The Economist has an interesting article that offers insight on what happens when she's let out of her bulletproof case annually.

Housed at the Louvre in Paris, Da Vinci's masterpiece has been the subject of admiration and awe for centuries. Painted in 1503, the Mona Lisa is rumored to be valued at more than $700 million.

POST-WAR:

In 1956, the lower part of the painting was severely damaged when someone doused it with acid. On December 30 of that same year, Ugo Ungaza Villegas, a young bolivian, damaged the painting by throwing a rock on it. The result was a speck of pigment near Mona Lisa's left elbow. The painting is now covered with bulletproof security glass.

On April 6, 2005- following a period curatorial maintenance, recording, and analysis- the painting was moved, within the louvre, to a new home in the museum's Salle des Etats. It is displayed in a purpose-built, climate-controlled enclosure behind bulletproof glass.

Like I said camera nuon motoo pa ko... pero gwardia (as in armed men) as mentioned in your quote, wala jud nuon ko kakita. BPI jud kay naay duha kay gwardia gadag shotgun ug M16 sa pultahan, bwahehehe!!!! Cordon hinuon diha pa, to prevent people from crowding/hitting the glass that housed the Mona Lisa. Otherwise, obvious unta kaayo. And that was only last week when I was there... during the height of terrorist alert.  Dili na quote from any article. ;D

Wow Enz... you really know your world history  :)

I love European art history, and have a passion for Napoleonic history, napoleon's personal journals, his tactics, and his secret love affairs. hehehe. From the angle of the picture, Father, i have a general understanding (better) of how truly large this work is!

Fwew! Amazing!

More pictures, please. More...  ;D
