I love and care my old Mama all the time.  ICU - 4 weeks confinement,  Year 2003, was twice home that year.  Applying her lipstick as she requested as   "81st b-day" present, that was this very day.  Kasuk-an pa ko kay she doesn`t like the color of the lipstick.

Three weeks after she was released from the hospital.  Smiling, healthy Mother! I miss her!

Yup...all  of  us  will  grow  old  pero  it's  very  comforting  to  know  nga  naa  tay  mga  anak  nga  moamuma  nato.  I  am  taking  care of  my   75  year old  Mama here  in  the  US. She  had  multiple  knee  surgeries  and  lately   broke  her  femur  and   had some  rods  placed but  she  is  a  very  determined  woman.  Had  an  extensive   Rehab  program  , 2  months after, she's  walking . She had  some incentive  to  get  well  because  she  knows  that  her   children are waiting  for  her .  We  went  home  on  a  vacation  sa  Bohol last  July/August and  she's  did  fine.  I  told  my   kids   to  help  and  love  grandma  and  continue  to  create  good  memories with  her...they  love  her  to  the  bones!

indaymen, you Mom is lucky enough having your unendless care and attention.  sa ato, lisod na. Have heard that most of them will get bored being away from the Phils. kay lagi mas daghan man ang motagad nila didto pero way mo-asikaso pag-ayo lagi. Ibog ko nimo nga na-a imong Mama diha, di man kaha pabadlong, lisod nang mahimong ika 4 nimong baby si Mommy.  ;D  Take your time and don`t forget yourself that you also need rest and attention, right?
Akong Mama, tua ra sa Tagb. daghan na gjod  among gikuha nga old sitter niya, dili lagi ka-agwanta kay mag-sigi man ug pahapohap  (day and night)morag bata na usahay.  :(

Bambi, love  chatting  with  you....really! We  are  like  having  a  support  group  here. In  the  US, taking care  of  our elderly/ill parents  is  a  very  big  issue. A  lot of  programs  have  been  offered  to us  caregiver/family  so we  don't  get  too   stressed  out. It's  really  nice but  if  your   parents  are  also  problematic  that  leaves us  the  family  member  to  personally  deal  with them..I  mean  in  a  "humanly manner". There's  no  replacement  for  real  love. They  get  very inspired  if they  can  feel  that they  are  still  wanted  and useful so I  try to  keep  her in that  area at least  ..whatever  she  can  do...but  then  I  emphasized  that  she  doesn't  have  to do  it and  not  really  her full  responsibility. Magpabadlong  pod   pero....that's  their  nature . Ikatu'og na  lang  nako. and of  course PRAYER ! He's  up  there  looking down  on  us.

Your  Mom  reminded  me  of  my  late  Papa. He  had  Chronic  COPD for  years but 5  years  before  he  passed  away, he  was  getting  so difficult  and  demanding  on  his  caregivers so  I  had  to  tell  him not  to be  too  hard  on  them  because  he doesn't  have   the  power  anymore...(  he  was  retired  from  the  military  ).that  if  he doesn't  behave ,  he  will be  alone  forever. We  got  his  younger  sister  to  be  with him 24/7....I  don't  know  how  many  times she  left  and  came  back   to  our request  and  also  because she didn't  have  a  decent  job.Luoy pod  but  they  got  along  esp. towards  the end...sad...sorry  for  venting but  you  are  not  alone...and   I  remember  his  passion  was imported  cologne  and  body  lotion....awwww God  bless  his  soul. We  missed  him  dearly!

luuy pood intawn reading your story, indaymen.

Maka hilak pood ko kai i remember my Lolo Ciano when he was living with us back in 2003-2005.

When Lolo was with us I would help him walk up the stairs from his bedroom downstairs to take his daily shower, help him toothbrush, get dressed etc etc. Naka feel pood ko how it is like to care for my lolo, very time consuming and ordeal oriented pero i enjoyed and cherished it because he was my dear lolo. That time Lolo was still 77 years old. Maka converse pood ko nija in bisaya and maka katawa pood mi because Lolo would always make jokes about his condition kai maka lingaw pood ba. Si lolo is paralyzed on his left side of his body; pero his right side is still strong. Not to mention that he was a very strong and muscular man when he was younger. He stands at 5'11 and weighed over 200 lbs when he was younger, very masculado jud. Even at age 77 he still had muscles on his right arm, and mo exercise ijang lawas to stretch his legs etc.

One time galing, ning ingoon si lolo nako, as I had my right arm around his shoulders to help him walk up our stairs to the 2nd floor of the house to the bathroom, "Doy, ayaw jud kalimot nako ha? Kai pinangga baja ka nako, Doy."

When he said that to me, i could not even staand straight kai ning hilak ko. Ingoon baja si lolo nako, when i started to cry, "Ajaw pag hilak, doy, kai mo hilak pood ko. Ajaw na na lang hilak..."

And at that we both cried....

I really bonded with my Lolo. LOVE him so much....

But even with that when we got up to the bathroom naka katawa napodo mi kai mo joke joke pood si lolo nako. Oh man we joked and talked about everything. Ask pood sija nako about ug naa ba kono koy 'mga girl friends" hahahaha!

kuyawa pood si lolo uy! hahaha!

Lolo is 81 turning 82 this october. Gusto jud ko maka balik kai gusto ko maka kita napood nija. I miss him so much...

Lorenzo, Im  so  proud  of  you!! Kudos  to  your  parents  for  bringing  you  up  the  right  way.  Thank  you  for  sharing  your  story.
My  kids  had  their   time bonding  with  their  Lolo  before  he  passed  away...they  were  treasured  and  cherished  memories.  He  refused  to  come  here when  I  filed  my  petition  for  them so  we  had  to  go  home  and  visit  him at  least  every  3  years during  our  town  fiesta. He  always  tell them  to  come  back and  see  him. Now,  he  will  be  remembered  as a  tough  and loving  Lolo.

hehe, naa koy picture sa ahong desk sa bata pa ko, i was about 9 or 10 months old, and my grandfather was holding me up with his two hands with a smile in his face. With his eyeglasses.

Gamay pa ko, he carried me and adored me with his love.

Now, I am honored to have the priviledge to care for him in his golden years.

I love my Lolo so much, di ko ka describe sa ahong feelings kai maka hilak if i think about him much.

In 2004 we went to Disney World, and in the boat ride there, lolo had a heat stroke, we had to rush him to the hospital, salamat sa GINOO that he was stabilized..okay ra sija.

In the hospital room, I told him (na suko ko nija) "Lolo, don't scare me like that uy. Di ka permited to leave me. I wont allow it. Pinanga ka nako kaayo. Di ka puydi ma mamatay pa."

Ning katawa ra pood si Lolo. Katawa ra pood mi duha. Mo katawa pero mo hilak at the same time.

As I write this, my mind is flooded with memories of my Lolo.
Naka hinumdum pood ko nija karoon. Kai last month ning tawag ko nija ning ask ko if kaibao ba sija kinsa kono ko...lol. Ning katawa pood si Lolo sa other side of the phone. Ingoon ra jud sija, "Ahhh, kaibaw gud. Ahong Apo. Bran."
nakatawa rapood mi duha. NIng answer pood ko, "ah mao ba! ikaw diay ahong lolo!" LOL!

Lo, mingaw ko nimo, Lo!
Love You so much Lolo.......

Abi  nimo...he  always  come  in  my  dreams  after his  passing but  before  his  first  death  anniversary, gipadamgo  ko  nija  nga  nanamilit...he  said  to  stop  worrying  for  everybody  now  because  my  face  is  starting to  sag....that  was  really  funny but  meaningful . I  still  give  my  brothers  and  sisters  support  financially  if  necessary...they  look  up  at  me  for   that. Very  typical  for  us  Boholano  families di ba? ...and  I  don't  mind  at  all. After that wala  na  ko magdamgo nija. I hope  he is  in PEACE  with our Lord  now...

I pray to God that you continue to bless and support and help your family, as you have done. The goodness that we do will be rewarded because the more we bless others, the more the Good Lord will bless us as well.

Inspiring bitaw ang mga bolanon parents. My titos and titas as well as my parents remind  my siblings, cousins and I of how we should always act and treat our family members.

Mo support, mo intervene, mo correct, and most of all to love.

God Bless!

Yours In Christ,
Lorenzo
