in politics:

Retired Brig. Gen. Leo Olegario will run for mayor against the incumbent Dr. Henrietta Lim Gan.

Retired Capt. Dango will run for Vice-Mayor against the incumbent Mr. George Buslon, a Medtech of Leona O. Lim Memorial Hospital.

Messrs. Olegario and Dango will have a hard time winning the 2010 election since they only have 2 barangay captains under their party compared to Dr. Henhen's 45. But we are expecting a good fight since some quarters are said to be tired of the kind of leadership the Lim family showed in the past 20 years and wanted some change in the political landscape.

Another setback of Messrs. Olegario and Dango's candidacy would be Atty. Balite's  poor health. Atty. BAlite, the founder of Bohol Institute of Technology is the leader of the opposition group og our town.

We cannot also expect full support from the family of Drs. Guido and Grace Lim (Valencia's second richest family, I guess) to the opposition since they are said to be distant cousins of the reigning Lims and that they have patched-up whatever differences their family's founders had in the past. Dr. Guido's brother, Dr. Plinio, also a former Mayor of Valencia who defeated Atty. Balite but dethroned by the mightier matriarch of the reigning Lim family, Dr. Conching Lim, is said to be "uncomfortable" with the leadership of Balite and party.

Three SB members will complete their three terms of office in 2010 and we are expecting that the three Candidates to be elected in the convention of Dr. Henhen's group will fill up the said vacancy. In the last 7 elections, there were 2 elections where the opposition were able to grab one post in the SB. The other five elections, including the latest, Valencianhons voted straight in favor of the Lim family.

You are totally wrong.

Valencia political landscapte is the kind of patronage politics never seen in other towns of Bohol, except perhaps that of Balilihan and Inabanga.

Money rules in Valencia politics.

Hilom Senyor Calle!

I'll act as consultant with powers to be defined by me para dili nako atbangan ang mga Lim.

So kung madivide ang votes sa old school between the admin and opposition groups, ako ang mudaug representing new politics of accoutability and transparency, di ba?

so, sa naman ni, mag consultant na lang ko or lansad ko? hahaha

YEHEY!

Tito, I didn't know that Dr. Conching Lim was no longer mayor. My maninay is also a Lim, the wife of Dr. Chiu. Kaila ka nila? They are over here in south jersey as well. Ning anhi sila sa Fiesta sa Santo Nino diri.

Kuyawan bitaw ko sa Lim family. Powerful kaayo. I have alot of respect for Dr. Guido Lim.

Good to hear that there's progress in Valencia. Gi renovate na ba nila ang Church to the Santo Nino? Good memories in that place.

Did you happen to see my Uncle Jun, Tito? He is back home right now ra ba. Plano raba mo balik si mommy ug ahong mga igsoon gamay this summer. Sayang i can't go tho.

God Bless Valencia!
The Bright minds of Valencianons!

Dr. Henrietta, the present mayor, is Dr. Conching's niece, dong. She succeeded her uncle, Nong Abling, when the latter passed away before finishing his second term. Nong Abling, who stood as patriarch of the Lim family after their parents died, succeeded her youngest sister, Dr. Conching, when she finished her three terms.

Dr. Conching got elected in the provincial board for three terms. after finishing her three terms, she ran and won as President of the Association of Barangay Captains in the province.

The three altars of the church were renovated eight years ago during Fr. Estoque's term using indigenous materials, particularly molave, locally known as tugas. The renovation was under the supervision of the National Historical Institute and the Diocesan body tasked in preserving Bohol's heritage. It cost Valencianhons millions to renovate the three altars.

The facade was also renovated at the time of Fr. Galon as well as the roof and ceiling. The facade was funded through donations from Valencia's rich and famous, most notably the families of Drs. Conching and Guido.

The renovation of the roof was very Providential. Before the town fiesta, a Valencianhon, in the person of Tata Abarado, owner of Santisima Trinidad Ice Plant, Santisima Trinidad fishing vessels and Bohol's largest fishpond located in Ubay, had a dream. In her dream, it was raining in Valencia so hard that the Sto. Nino inside the Church got wet. She went to the convent and donated millions for the renovation.

Ning adto man mi sa balay nila when we came back in 1998. Buotan man sila, very kind and respectful. The mother of Dr. Guido always referred to Lola in their chinese names, as I remember the side conversations.

Its interesting to know that you know so much of the internal intrigue in Valencia, Tito. hahaha!

I'm happy to know that you enjoyed your vacation to Valencia last week, did you go back home by yourself or did you go with your family as well? Mo balik ahong mommy karoong summer kai she and my uncle are trying to renovate the house of my lolo and lola. So you saw Lolo's truck still there eh? hahaha!

Can you imagine, when I was only 4 or 5 years old, when my parents drove us to Valencia to visit our lolo and lola, I would always wait for Lolo to come back from his drives. And I always knew Lolo was outside because i could hear the sound of the coins in his pocket. Tag'aan pood mi nija ug 5 peso or 10 peso, dagan jud mi sa mercado mo palit hahaha. Ahong igsoon, she made a collection of the pisos she got form lolo. hahaha!

I want the old place to be renovated as well. When I'm done (maluuy ang Ginoo), I want to completely refurbish our place. So i can come back and visit every summer.

PS. Tito, do you have pictures of your visit to Valencia? If so, please post and share~

Salamat Kaayo,

The story of Ma'am Tata Abarado and her contribution for the blessed Santo Nino in our church is so heart warming, sir. God Bless her, and all the wonderful people that donated for the preservation of our church. Even if walay naka contribute, the prayers did help as well.

This kind of information and news, i like to read about. :)

God Bless,

GOD IS PRAISED!

Tito, nice to hear that! You have no idea how many sleepless nights mommy would come downstairs and tell us her kids, "Doy, day, gusto ko irenovate ang balay ni mama ug papa"

Gi renovate na baya, salamat sa Dios. I wish Lola was alive still, because my mommy always talks about her. :'(

Ma hilak pood ta da!

Hilak ko kalingaw kai when Lolo was here in the 'states from 2003 till 2005, mo ingoon man to sija namo, 'Gusto na ko mo balik sa Valencia. Sa balay nako ug imung lola nating"

He only said that, and My tears from my eyes fell like waterfalls.

Tito, please post pictures! Palihug, ha.

Salamat dayon,

Tito, how old is our church diay? ang real age ?

The architecture of our church looks like it was influenced by late baroque period; Imperial architecture.

i don't know dong. valencia is quite young compared to other towns - we are just a part of Dimiao then. I think Valencia became a gobernadorcillo in the 3rd quarter of the 1800s. so our church may be between 120-140 years old.

What's new?

Nene (Cornillo?) is building his pension house in canmanico, valencia. emma (forgot the family name but she comes from the palac bloodline of cutcutan and anas) also has her own pension house and restaurant in anas, near badiang. she's a successful businesswoman from anas who migrated to mindanao and now back to the land of her birth.

kini dugang sa mga existing places where valencianhon balikbayans can stay during their vacation - villa tarcela and the house in poblacion occidental (forgot the owner's name).
