I read one of the Agriculture newspaper in DK. There was an article written by a danish journalist. He went to bohol, I don't know if he's married to a filipina, but he wrote about the rice planting.

Nya dili siya gusto nga magsuwat mahitungod ana nga dili siya makasuway. Nisuway jud siya tanom ug humay, as a paid worker.

Ang iyang means of excercise is tennis and planting rice (he volunteers for free).

My grandfather's ancestral line hails from the regions of Barangay Anas, Valencia and have farmed those same hills since time immemorial; during and before spanish times.

How I yearn to go back to my roots. :)

Lorenzo,

The background mountains of Valencia is the Raja Sikatuna National Park (Bilar), home of the most Bio diversity in Bohol and the rainforest mountains of Raja Sikatuna (water shed) provides all the water source that irrigates the rice.

You see, it clearly shows how important it is to conserve our trees. For without them, Valencia would not have water, rice and no Badiang Falls.

You must visit Raja Sikatuna Park. You don't worry about accomodation, I am from Bilar and we have a house and many relatives there. Or we can camp in the Raja Sikatuna complex grounds were there is a natural swimming pool and you are surrounded by forest. At night you will hear all the nucturnal creatures.

Basta lay klase tabang jud sa basakan. Usahay nagsamot ko sa akua sis nga mag-away me arung paundangun. So giscold ming duha ja gipauli, pag-abot sa unahan nag-aper mis kamot ja ambak sa sapa. My lolo has hectars of land in the basaks. I remember going to our basaks when I was younger with my Lolo Ciano and my Lolo Mierto and Lolo Hesus (brothers of my grandfather). Clad in boots and the farmer hat. Lolo would inspect his domain and show me how to plant rice.

It is really good to get in touch with the land. And to survey the domain. Id like to visit the basaks again. Simple and beautiful.
