TUBIGON- With the different issues sprouting that threaten the safety as well as the peace and order situations in the province is never enough to be vigilant but we need to be ready thus on August 19, 2014 at JJs Foodstream, an orientation-training is conducted for the Barangay Public Safety Officers of popularly called Barangay Tanod.
This training is called Barangay Public Safety Officers (BPSO) on Disaster Response and Management aims to provide the appropriate knowledge and information in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities as first responders and volunteers in crisis and emergency situations. This was initiated by the Philippine National Police (PNP) in cooperation with the Local Government Unit of Tubigon (LGU-Tubigon) and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG).
Being the front liners in the preparation of and response to any type of emergencies, public disorders, man-made calamities and disasters that may threaten peace and order as well as public safety, it is important to equip these tanods with the needed weapons which can be of help for them in maintaining the peacefulness within their areas of responsibilities.
The training served as a refresher course for them as they were reminded of their duties and responsibilities as a Public Safety Officers. They are also introduced of their roles in managing disasters as well as in preventing crimes. Various drills and exercises were conducted showcasing the right approaches in handling and handcuffing arrested individuals as presented by representatives from the PNP. Demonstrations on giving first aids, basic life support and emergency was showcased by the men from the Bureau of Fire Prevention.
These watchmen play an important role in the peace and order situation of our respective barangays. The compensations that they are receiving may be too little compared to the risks that they have to take in performing their duties. But as what the honorable mayor stressed in his message during that day, this kind of job needs love and commitment in order for these men to stay truthful in this task that they are assigned to by the respective Punong Barangays.
This training is divided into three clusters taking into consideration the number of participants per barangay. Among those who gave their support during that day were the honorable mayor Marlon R. Amila, Vice Mayor Virgilio Fortich, PSInsp Christian B. Torres, Mr. Jogepons Ruloma the MLGOO-DILG.
