Rubin, Founder of CMRubinWorld, Mohamed Abdel-Kader, executive director of the Stevens Initiative at the Aspen Institute, tells C.M. Rubin that students navigating the complexities of the 21st century need to be globally competent, “meaning that they have the mindset, the disposition, and the tools to navigate a rapidly changing and interconnected environment, often filled with ambiguity and diversity.”
Created in 2015 by the Stevens family as a living legacy to Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, the Stevens Initiative is building global competencies and 21st century skills for young people in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa. Abdel-Kader says the program’s virtual exchange approach is unique and that the students’ experience enables them to have an experience that is “collaborative, sustained, and usually facilitated by educators.”

Mohamed Abdel-Kader is currently the executive director of The Stevens Initiative at The Aspen Institute. Created in 2015 by the Stevens family as a living legacy to Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens, the Stevens Initiative is a public-private partnership that is building global competencies and 21st century skills for young people in the United States and the Middle East and North Africa.
