Why we should buy Philippine lotto tickets

i buy lotto. i admit my doing so does not sit well with my two sisters. well, they always thought i was "the weird one" anyway. they cannot imagine that i line up at a lotto outlet along with the hoi polloi. what? they think they're not hoi polloi as well? it's my sisters who are the weird ones, actually. and i'm writing this because if by chance they get to read this, they wouldn't know i'm referring to them since they don't know who i am anyway.

pcso gives out vehicle ambulance to towns. at least naay kapadulngan ang kwarta. pcso also provides financial assistance to indigent patients.

i buy only one lotto number combination at a time. i figured only one number wins the jackpot anyway, so why buy more than one? this way, the expense keeps me from cringing. the cost is covered by "grocery expense", say, an average of 10 or 20 pesos a day. i did the math, and it's bearable.

it would be hypocritical to say that i do not expect to win. i do. but it won't kill me if i didn't win. remember, it's just part of the grocery expense. a kilo of tomatoes costs much more.

my sisters still believe i'm gambling. gambling it is then, which is nothing but a game of chance. i go out in the midst of traffic and already i'm gambling with my life, if i have to take in context the meaning of gambling.

the idea of the chance of winning and the reality of helping at the same time is already a winning combination. this is my mantra for lotto.

DAVAO CITY, May 25 â€“ For such well-regarded government institution as the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) with lotto dealer outlets in almost every corner of this southern bustling city, itâ€™s hard to disregard and ignore its impact in the lives of ordinary people here.

Weâ€™ve not gotten around to interview the local top official here, but bumping into impoverished farmers trying to get their children medical help and even hospitalization at the Maharlika Charity Foundation medical center along J. Cabaguio Avenue here â€” one gets a sense that all that money from sweepstakes and lotto sales are actually trickling down to the poor masses who desperately need medical help.

Maharlika Foundation is right on top of the office of PCSO, its main benefactor, along Cabaguio Avenue. And it is here where you bump into the poorest of the poor trying to get free medicines and free hospitalization from PCSO.

Not only do we see them at the PCSO office on some occasions, but also on the pages of a little red booklet titled â€œHow To Win Lottoâ€ which cited the PCSO for helping the poor in Davao seek free medical help

On page 23, it says â€œif you just drop by the Davao PCSO district office at J. Cabaguio Avenue on any working day, you will see very poor people lining up to seek financial and medical help from PCSO. Donâ€™t be surprised why the Maharlika Charity Foundation which owns the building occupied by the PCSO is operating a free well-equipped hospital for the poor, right upstairs.â€

The red booklet which was trying to justify oneâ€™s feeling of guilt in buying sweepstake or lotto, continued: â€œSo you can think of it this way â€” buying a PCSO lotto ticket is like donating money to the poor and the sick with the added advantage and probability of amassing a large fortune, if youâ€™re lucky.â€

Although hundreds have already gotten a copy of this little red booklet â€œHow To Win Lottoâ€ from such bookstores as Velasco near city hall, Jade bookstore at Ateneo de Davao commercial building and Pen Haus at Victoria Plaza, thereâ€™s really nothing special nor scientific about it. Fact is, it doesnâ€™t really guarantee winning the lotto.

Since jackpot lotto winners at PCSO are never identified, the bookletâ€™s author also opts not to be identified openly except to say that itâ€™s written by an â€œanonymous idiotâ€ who ALMOST won the lotto jackpot. This simply means, he didnâ€™t hit all the six sets of numbers to win the jackpot â€” he only hit five, but nevertheless got a fat Landbank check for it from Davao PCSO Office some years ago.

Well, idiot or not, there are two chapters in that red booklet (Chapter 4 and 5) that reveals the â€œsecret systemâ€ of gathering all winning lotto numbers over five or six months and filtering out the â€œhighest frequency numbersâ€ that gives the most probability of hitting the jackpotâ€™s six winning numbers. Now, whether this system actually works or not, no one knows, for sure.

Until now, itâ€™s still debatable whether or not the red booklet has something to do with the two Davao lotto jackpot winners last year who won two of the countryâ€™s biggest jackpots. (We arenâ€™t sure whether it was P145-million or P175-million).

Our best bet is: they probably won out of pure luck â€” because no one can really tell whether or not these two guys work out their own â€œwinning systemâ€ using the red booklet as a reference. And thereâ€™s no way of knowing their identities, which will always remain secret for security reasons.

PCSO forfeits P100-M unclaimed lottery prizes

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) has reverted to the charity funds of the agency some P100 million in unclaimed prizes of its online lottery games, a top official of the agency said over the weekend.

This action was taken after the one-year period to claim the winnings expired.

Jose Ferdinand Rojas, PCSO general manager, told reporters during a news forum at Hotel Rembrandt in Quezon City that the unclaimed winnings included both minor and major prizes of the 6/42 Lotto, 6/45 Mega Lotto, 6/49 Super Lotto and 6/55 Grand Lotto games.

Below P5,000 winnings can be claimed at lotto outlets while major prizes can be claimed in the PCSOâ€™s Central office at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC) in Pasay City.

Rojas said unclaimed prizes will form part of the charity fund that is being used to provide medical assistance to patients seeking treatment across the country.

He said an average of 1,000 patients receive the PCSO assistance daily.

The PCSO, which has set up a medical facility at the Lung Center of the Philippines, also increased the daily fund for medical assistance from P5 million to P11 million.

â€œThe PCSO will set up satellite medical facilities in various parts of the country to reach out to patients needing medical assistance,â€ Rojas added.

tinuod. sureness ko. anyone can go to any pcso for help, but you've got to be legit nga nagkinahanglan gyod tinuod.

purya lang tong son-in-law sa akong kaila; dying iyang baby intawon, unya around 1.5 million na ang nagasto sa hospital treatment ang akong kaila. naughan na gyod intawon. he encouraged his ne'er-do-well and jobless son-in-law to ask for help from the pcso. ang bakhoy, niadto tuod, pero nagpa-porma. nag-rayban ug nagdrive ug suv. kinsa may ganahan motagad ana kay indigent kunohay? (he failed to qualify in the interview.)

the pcso is well-audited. ambulances in towns come from this agency, which also farms out funds to other charitable institutions.
