Mayor Cajes offers quality college education for less than P100 per unit
By Manuel Ferdinand Ramirez de Erio
Sunday Post

“We must make it a general truth that quality education must be accessible by the majority of the people, if not by everyone.” This statement came when Trinidad town mayor Judith “Bb” del Rosario-Cajes introduced Trinidad Municipal College (TMC) as the latest income-generating enterprise of the LGU.
Mayor Cajes who is also the Chairman of the TMC Board of Trustees by virtue of Municipal Ordinance No. 2003-001, is inviting high school graduating students to  affordable quality education available at the doorstep of northern Bohol.

Founded in 1985, TMC was the one of earliest community college to offer affordable the course of Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.  With the basic thrust of offering affordable quality education, TMC offers college education at a very least cost of only P97.10 per unit.
The school was able to offer BSIT in such an affordable cost because its operation is subsidized by the LGU. “We will maintain the most affordable cost of college education because we aimed to provide education that is accessible by the masses.” Cajes pointed out.

The operation of TMC has generated almost P11.6 million since the seat of mayor Cajes in the TMC board of trustees.  The income generated from 2007 to 2009 has more than doubled the income earned from 2004 to 2006 which is only almost P5.6 million, which equates to an increase of 107.15%.
The increase in income was caused by the growth of influx of students.  From academic years 2004 to 2006 the number of students was only 1,763 but the number of students grew to 2,410 in academic years 2007 to 2009.  An increase of 36.70% was achieved.

This growth in the number of students amidst the growing number of competing colleges, are results of the LGUs upgrading of the facilities, equipments and curriculum.
The school, being the seat of affordable quality college education in the northern part of Bohol that caters to college students from mostly the second district of Bohol, was also supported by second district congressman Roberto “Ondoy” Cajes.

Congressman Cajes built seven new classrooms to accommodate more classes and more students, while the LGU had made a counterpart in the repairs of dilapidated classrooms and the restoration of the administrative building which has been declared a heritage building by the National Historical Institute.
By June this year, TMC will offer Bachelor of Elementary Education.  This new course offering is expected to increase the number of students as TMC administrator Rosalinda Evangelista, Ph.D. has already put in place the necessary faculty for the new course offering.

“We invite the college students and also the parents to visit TMC to actually see for themselves our facilities and the curriculum that we have tediously work to be updated.” Mayor Cajes urged.

“In TMC we do not only offer school, we do not only offer college institution, but more significantly, we offer a community.  We offer a safe community for your children, we offer a community that is conducive to the learning process. Not only our tuition fees are affordable, we also have affordable boarding houses and affordable standard of living for your kids.” Cajes added.
TMC offers courses in Bachelor of Arts major in English and Political Science, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) under the Ladderized Education Program (LEP) of TESDA and the CHED, Bachelor of Science in Office Administration (BSOA), Associate in Secretarial Administration (ASOA), and technical courses like automotive servicing, building wiring installation and refrigeration and air-conditioning servicing.
