You are more than welcome, Ben. Glad that you are interested in Filipino history, it is a very interesting history, one that is filled with discourse. Prior to the arrival of the Spaniards, the Philippine Archipelago was composed of multiple kingdoms or
Rajanates which was ruled by a local Raja (King) and beneath him was the dimunitive Datu-Datu who's role is similar to that of the English Baron, or Noble Lord. The titles were hereditary. And these multiple rajanates and sultanates warred with one another, for the prize of ownership of rice land, sea ports, trade, and slave trade.
It was the Spaniards who forcefully conquored the whole archipelago and forced the whole population to assimilate. The reason why the Warai-Warai have retain this stereotype of being 'war-like' is because multiple rebellions in the Leyte-Samar hinterland took place during Colonial days. 'Hot blooded'. Perhaps there is some truth to the old stereotype. Perhaps there isn't. Who knows.
One thing is for sure. It generates interest in the Warai.
