Travel site of U.S. based international cable TV news network CNN has chosen Cloud 9 in Siargao Island, Province of Surigao del Norte, as number 8 in CNNGO’s 50 best surf spots in the World.
Cloud 9 in General Luna. Siargao Island has also been known as the country's surfing capital recognized by different international surfing organizations.
Posted on Friday at CNNGo’s website, Cloud 9 in General Luna town Siargao Island placed the Philippines as the second Southeast Asian country, next to Indonesia, that was included in CNNGO's top 10 surfing spots.
Indonesia's Uluwatu and Kuta surfing spots shared the top 3 spot.
CNNGo was launched in September 2009 with a homepage connecting independent websites in eight cities, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Seoul, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo that covered travel, lifestyle, personalities and latest trends in the most fascinating and vibrant places in the world.
In its website content it explained that CNNGo is different from CNN.com or the CNN one is watching on TV or cable news as it is a separate division of CNN who has its own regional staff -- a much smaller operation than CNN's global team of 4,000 news professionals.
By boat from Surigao City wharf which is three hours land trip from here Butuan City, Caraga Region’s capital, one can reach Cloud 9 in General Luna town via Dapa town, another Siargao Island municipality,through a motorboat which is about three to four hours sail from Port of Surigao City.
From the Port of Dapa, Cloud 9 is only 20 to 30 minutes land trip via General Luna town.
By plane, one will reach Cloud 9 from Manila through once or twice a week Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines flights about two or one and a half flight hours and will land at Del Carmen Airport in Del Carmen municipality which is about twelve kilometers from Cloud 9.
