A tourism school in Mindanao is providing free skills trainings for out-of-school youths in this city to address the needs of children who cannot afford to go to college due to financial constraints.
Joji Ilagan-Bian, owner of the Joji Ilagan Bian (JIB) Career Center Foundation Inc., said her school started last month offering to over 100 out-of-school youths free trainings on hotel housekeeping, food and beverage services and hair cutting.
“I always believe that if the parents can not afford to send their children to college, there are ways to address the needs of their children through provision of free skill trainings which my school has been providing ever since,†she said.
The scholarship program of JIB Career Center Foundation has already produced quality graduates who are now working both in the local industries and abroad over its 27 years of academe service, she bared.
The recipients of these free trainings will have the chance to acquire the correct competencies and skills required by the industries for employment.
They will thus have the advantage in applying for job as they are given a certificate of completion after the trainings.
“My schools regularly offer free skill trainings because I have seen this need from among our youth who were inspired by their family’s financial status that led them of not getting a college diploma,†Bian said. (PNA)
