As one of the Pillars of Hercules in Greek mythology, the Rock of Gibraltar has been instantly recognizable for thousands of years. But for those not geographically oriented, this is the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea from the Atlantic Ocean. In other words you are looking at the Rock of Gibraltar in Spain

Driving west in Andalusia along Spain's new coastal expressway, the A7, not a single road sign mentions the British territory of Gibraltar. You just have to figure out when to exit the highway (at La LÃnea de la ConcepciÃ³n, the Spanish city at the foot of the rock). By the time you see a sign for Gibraltar, you'll be within walking distance.

Aside from the runway-road crossing with stop light controls, I canâ€™t recall ever having seen a picture of Gibraltar from this perspective! Did you know Gibraltar's Airport runway and vehicular traffic crossings are at the same level? I guess no TB member knows:

obviously this looks more developed than the falklands, bisag pareha ra sila nga tipik pero gi-maintain sa british tungod lang sa ilang imperialist pride. i understand this is a sore spot between britain and spain?

ako pod, i hope to visit this place one day. i would like to be able to tell myself that i've been to the pillar of hercules, and the food was good. masiguro lang unta nako nga kun magkalisod sa traffic lights, naa ko sa eroplano, wa sa awto.

The Barbary Macaque population in Gibraltar is the only one in the whole of the European continent, and, unlike that of North Africa, it is thriving. At present there are some 230 animals in five troupes occupying the area of the Upper Rock, though occasional forays into the town may result in damages to personal property. Moreover, you can see three Barbary Macaque females on the Alameda Wildlife Conservation Park in Gibraltar. As they are a tailless species, they are also known locally as Barbary Apes or Rock Apes, despite the fact that they are monkeys (Macaca sylvanus). The local people simply refer to them as monos (meaning monkeys) when conversing in Spanish or Llanito (the local vernacular).
