What was your first impression of Masbate?
My Chinese roots settled in Masbate. My great-great grandfather from Peking did business with the locals on this province. In fact the estate is still alive with the generations. But, I never learned to love this place. It is politically chaotic, the 3Gs exist (goons, gold, guns). When my Uncle ran for Congressman in one of the districts, I was obligated to help in the campaign. It was horrible experience. Not a day that I don't hear gunshots.
The tenants are ordered to obey what the landlords tell them to vote. "WAY BOTO, IBOT:. I have seen one of the tenants' hut ejected because of election. The corruption is so bad.
Masbate for so long was controlled by few politicians that exercise powers more than God.
Poverty is also beyond compare.
