The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) is now preparing the airport in Antique, also known as the Evelio B. Javier Airport, for bigger aircraft operations that may start in April.
CAAP area manager Efren Nagrama said the airport presently accommodates the private planes owned by the Semirara Mining Corp. only.
However, the Cebu Pacific Air has already made known its intention to start commercial operations from the Evelio B. Javier Airport to Manila and vice-versa in April.
During a recent ‘Ulat sa Bayan’ by the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), Nagrama said that the government spent around P52 million for the improvement of the runway surface, apron and other features to include the construction of the Flight Service Station.
The fund was taken from the President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's Social Fund and assisted by the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.
Nagrama also said that the coming in of flights from Manila to Antique would surely encourage the business sector to invest in the province because of its economic potential. (PNA)
