ILIGAN CITY IS POISED TO BECOME A TOURISM HUB OF MINDANAO
Maria Cristina Falls, Robinsons Go Hotel and mall to help make Iligan a tourism hub
In Iligan, we have the magnificent Maria Cristina waterfalls, as well as the falls of Limunsudan and Tinago. We have natural springs in Timoga-Buruun, and the forests of Mt. Agad-Agad and Rogongon and Digkilaan. Iligan City is also one of two gateways to Northern Mindanao. The other is Cagayan de Oro City.
Iligan already has ample hotels, resorts, wellness facilities and other components of the tourism sector. However, the city and the rest of Northern Mindanao need road networks and bridges to vastly improve access to the many tourism spots of the city and its neighboring communities.
It is for this reason that I have been pushing for House Bill 5720, which was approved at the House committee on tourism on March 23. This bill seeks to include Iligan City in the National Tourism Development Plan of the Department of Tourism, so the city can have its just share in the infrastructure development budget of the national government.
Among the record-high P617 billions worth of new projects the Board of Investments approved in 2017 is the P170 million-peso Go Hotel of Robinsons Land Corporation in Iligan City.
The Go Hotel in Iligan was approved for investment incentives by the BOI in July 2017.
The 100-room hotel is the third of the Robinsons Go Hotel chain in Mindanao. Robinsons Land Corporation said they chose to go to Iligan City because they it fits in with their mall project also in Iligan.
The first Go Hotel in Mindanao is in Butuan City, Agusan del Sur.
“RLC opened its second Go Hotels in the Mindanao region at Lanang, Davao City, a joint venture with Udenna Development Corporation. Go Hotels Lanang-Davao is the first franchise of gohotels.ph to open,” the company said in their latest publicly-available annual report.
Mindanao Times has reported that RLC is “studying the possibility” of a fourth Go Hotel in Mindanao, particularly in General Santos City, where RLC also has a mall.
“As of fiscal year 2016, the Company had seven (7) new shopping malls and three (3) expansion projects in the planning and development stage for completion in the next 2 years. The Company’s business plan for the Commercial Centers Division over the next five years, subject to market conditions, is to sustain its growth momentum via development of new shopping malls and expansion of existing ones,” according to Robinsons Land Corp.
