CEBU CITY -- The lead dancer of Lumad Basakanun, an award-winning Sinulog contingent, won this year’s search for the Sinulog Festival Queen.
Apriel D. Smith of Barangay Basak, Cebu City bested 13 other candidates vying for the festival queen title Friday night. She also won four special awards, namely: Miss PLDT, Best in Sinulog Festival Costume, Best Festival Costume, and Best Solo Performer.
She took home P50,000 for winning the search, aside from the amounts she received for winning the special awards.
Named first runner-up was Nerissa L. Modesto, lead dancer of Pasaka Festival of Tanauan, Leyte, an out-of-town contingent. She took home P30,000, a sash and a bouquet of flowers.
Second runner-up was Conchitina Cleofe Cloma Yu of Tribu Lingganay, Alang-alang, Leyte; third runner-up was Shekina Rose Lasola, who represents the Sandurot Festival of Dumaguete City; and fourth runner-up was Angel Lou Pates of Lanao del Norte.
Lasola also won three special awards, namely Miss Teletech, Miss Globe, and Best in Opening Production Number.
Danilie Rose Damolo of Bulacao Community School was named Miss Photogenic.
The group of second runner-up Yu, meanwhile, won the Best Instrumentalist and Best in Group Performance special awards.
All of the winners in this year’s search for the Sinulog Festival Queen were also given a brand new cellphone courtesy of Globe Telecom.
The Festival Queen second runner-up took home P20,000, while the third and fourth runners-up received P5,000 each.
The event, held at the Cebu City Sports Complex, started late due to intermittent rains. Judging the search are 10 well-known personalities, including Miss Philippines-Earth 2008 Karla Paula Henry and Miss Cebu 2011 Mia Zeeba Faridoon, among others. (LRM/Sunnex) --
