The Cebu Port Authority (CPA) eyes a mass transport system to provide safety to disembarking passengers on their way to the airport or in identified designated drop-off areas in Cebu City.
According to Director Oscar Lopez, manager of the Port Security Safety and Environmental Management Department of the CPA said they are mulling two options on realizing the plan.
“We could either bid it out to the private sector or we could implement it ourselves,†Lopez disclosed.
Lopez said the mass transport system is part of the new projects of CPA set for implementation this year.
“The budget is already there. We just have to determine which would be the best option in implementing the transport system,†Lopez declared.
The CPA official said they are looking at purchasing four buses that would ferry passengers that just disembarked from commercial vessels
Currently, passengers have the option to ride the queued taxis accredited by the CPA or go outside and walk some distance away for public jeepneys.
“Not all disembarking passengers can afford to pay for taxi. Also during peak season, the number of accredited taxis may not be enough. So we are giving the passengers the option to choose for their own safety,†Lopez added. - PIA
