Passengers bound for Camiguin expressed gripes over habitual delayed departures of Oceanjet fast ferry which is serving the route.
Passengers could not hold but expressed their gripes since these delayed departures are happening almost daily while citing an incident which hampered their observance of All Saint's Day since the vessel departed Jagna to BenoniPort at 4pm, instead of 2pm. Reaching Camiguin 2.5 hours late disrupted their going home to pay homage to their departed kins.
But nobody from the fast-craft crew, not even its captain, tried to explain why it was very late when, in fact, there was no weather disturbance, an irate passenger said.
It easily earned a moniker of "Ocean Late," said provincial tourism officer Jo R. Cabarrus, who herself had a sad experience when it ran "side-winding" at one time while at sea.
It always earns flak simply because of its alleged poor and unworthiness in sea travel. If it continues to ignore the demand for improvement of its dwindling services, the safety of the tourists and passengers could be at risk, according to the gist of a resolution passed by the Provincial Tourism Council (PTC) executive committee.
PTC passed the said Resolution urgently requesting the vessel company to make improvement of their poor services amid mounting complaints against the fastcraft company.
It also appeals for the Martiime Industry Authority (MARINA) to look into the company's "inability" of providing satisfactory service to its clientele, said Cabarrus, head of the council's secretariat.
Poor service, unsanitary and dirty rest rooms, "unstable" state of its engines, repeated late and delay on schedules, over-booking and over-crowding, and no refund of "package" fare rates when one fails to return trip on schedule and many others are among the serious allegations hurled against the company.
