The Davao International Airport (DIA) based in this city needs to undergo rehabilitation, according to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.
Duterte-Carpio made this comment in reaction to the issue of “open skies†policy, which the Confederation of Provincial Governors, City Mayors and Municipal Mayors League Presidents of Mindanao (CONFED Mindanao) is currently reviewing.
“There is a need to renovate some of the airport’s equipment that has already bogged down. The facility should be updated,†she said.
She also confirmed that no financial assistance is being allocated in the city’s annual budget for the DIA as this is of national concern.
But the mayor said, the city recently helped in the repair of one of the X-ray machines at the DIA. The city is also providing security personnel inside the DIA as well as providing food for the K-9 bomb-sniffing dogs deployed in the facility.
Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) chair Luwalhati Antonino when asked about the matter said she has already personally talked to the officials of the Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) regarding the improvement of ports including the DIA. - Judy Quiros, PNA
