BOHOL SANDUGO FESTIVAL 2009
SANDUGO STREET DANCING GUIDELINES


Sandugo Streetdancing 2009 is an open competition for all groups in the Province of Bohol and the City of Tagbilaran. Theme for this years’ SANDUGO is “Panag-hiusa sa Kaliwat, Kalamboan sa Tanan".

COMPOSITION
• A group is composed of sixty [60] and a maximum of one hundred [100] participants of any sex, including the instrumentalists who may participate in the dance.

• Included in the maximum number is the guidon bearer who carries the banner or placard identifying the group.

CHOREOGRAPHY
• The choreography should include a ritual which depict of Boholano dance customs, traditions, or way of life [blood compact, weddings, fiesta, etc.] or authentic use of foreign dance, idioms, and traditions. In the use of foreign based movements, the important criterion is authenticity based on cultural research.

• Choreographer must be knowledgeable of the dance or music traditions of foreign culture being presented in the competition..

MUSIC
• Any musical instrument maybe used; canned music is allowed.

• Criteria under music include the use of Boholano music, rhythms and tradition, use of creative music scoring, creativity and originality and dynamic use of rhythm and melody in the composition. Songs and chants maybe used.

• A plus factor will be added on the use of indigenous instrument using indigenous materials. In the use of foreign music, authenticity in the use of foreign of foreign music to portray foreign culture must be observed. Because of this, the use of canned/taped music is allowed but blended with live music.

PRODUCTION DESIGN
• In the production design, it includes use of Boholano design, motifs, images, materials, and textiles found in the Bohol environment, creativity and originality, and dynamic use of design principles like harmony, balance, composition, contrast, focus and variation level.

• In the portrayal of foreign cultures, authenticity in the use of visual elements from a foreign culture is a major criterion [ crafts, costumes, visual arts, motifs,etc,]

• Props and paraphernalia maybe used during the parade and in the dance showdown/ competition. The props must not be higher than l2 ft.and the use of float is allowed.

• In the presentation, free interpretation is used both in Boholano tradition or portrayal of foreign culture.

STREET DANCING PARADE
• All dancers and instrumentalists must participate in the street dancing parade.

• The parade is non-stop and no backstep is to be executed by any of the participants.

• Three judging areas will be designated by the committee and no ritual that hinders the flow of the parade is allowed.

DANCE SHOWDOWN
• The full performance at the CPG Sports Complex should observe the time limit which is a maximum of eight [8] minutes but not below five minutes performance including setting of props, entrance and exit of participants.

• Time is counted at the start of music and on the first movement, and ends at last movement, first step of exit.

• Timer on stage will raise a white flag to signal start and on the eighth minute, the timer will raise the red flag to signal the end.

• Each contingent shall designate its own timer to coordinate with the stage timer.

• One [1] point for every thirty [30] second overtime will be deducted from total score in performance. Stage timer shall advice the result of the time consumed.

• In cases not covered by the rules and regulations, the Judging Committee is empowered to promulgate the decision.


GUIDELINES FOR JUDGING
• There will be two sets of judges/ judging;
Criteria for judging during the street dancing parade.
Criteria for judging at the grounds for dance showdown.

• In every judging area, there will be judges assigned and the same will judge during the full performance of the dance competition.

• The judges will elect among themselves the chairman of the Board of Judges who shall preside in the deliberation of the results and will announce the winners during the awarding ceremonies.

• The judges will employ a ranking system (raw scores will be converted into ranks).

• In case of a tie, the contingent that gets the most number of higher ranks will be declared as the frontrunner.

• The decision of the judges shall be final and unappealable.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR TRAINERS/COACHES OF CONTINGENTS

• All participating groups should send their trainers/coaches/or choreographers to attend the meeting tentatively set on July 10,2009 at 2:00 pm. at Tagbilaran City Hall for briefing & orientation.

• Another meeting will be scheduled for the drawing of lots to determine the placement of groups in the Street Dancing parade and the sequence of the contest in the showdown.

• Sketch map will be given to coaches/trainors for their guidance. The committee shall have the right to determine the placement of any group not represented in the meeting for the final briefing. Assembly of all participating contingents is at l1:00 a.m. on July 26, 2009 at the Tagbilaran City Port.

CHAMPION 200,000.00 & Trophy
FIRST RUNNER-UP 150,000.00 & Trophy
SECOND RUNNER-UP 100,000.00 & Trophy

In addition, special awards and other prizes will be given.

OTHERS:
• Giving of subsidy in the amount of thirty thousand pesos (P30,000.00) will be done immediately after the submission of entry form. Deadline for submission is on July 6, 2009.

• To protect the interest of the Sandugo Festival sponsors, the Streetdancing Committee reserves the right to disallow the participation of entries directly sponsored by companies/entities in competition with lock-out sponsors.
