To start the ball rolling, Gov. Edgar Chatto has given the go-signal for the conduct of the 2nd Dolphin Festival next month by creating working committees through a memorandum order No. 1, series of 2012 he signed on April 16, 2012.
The governor said the presence of cetaceans in
Bohol waters as “indicators of a healthy coastal environment†considering marine mammals visit here because of rich marine habitat and sufficient food supply.
“The existence of marine mammals in our municipal waters has made greater contributions to our tourism industry as well as in the province’s economy†that has generated additional income that benefited to local community and business sector.
The Dolphin Festival tentatively set on May 31, 2012 as part of the Month of the Ocean celebration next month aims at raising awareness in the conservation and protection of Bohol’s coastal resources, said the governor in his memo order.
Involved in the festival preparation include the provincial government through Bohol Environment Management Office (BEMO), the Bohol Rescue Unit for Marine Wildlife (BRUMW) in partnership with Physallus, Path Foundation, the Coastal Conservation for environment Foundation (CCEF) and other national agencies such as the Bureau of Fishery and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of the DENR headed by Crescenciano Pahamutang and Nestor Canda, respectively.
The Memorandum Order has not only identified the committee composition but also defines their duties and responsibilities.
Among the committees created include Program, Physical Arrangement, Parade, Prizes and Awards, Security/Peace/Order, Food, Documentation, Publicity and Emergency.
Other participating agencies include Bohol Tourism Office, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist, Governor’s Office/Center for Culture and Arts, National Museum, Provl General Service Office, Phil Coast Guard, PNP Maritime, Office of Provincial Veterinarian, Phil Ports Authority, city PNP, BANGON, Padayon BMT, Phil Information Agency, EdCom, TARSIER 117, Provl Health Office and Medical Outreach Unit.
