Be careful of your luggage!
« on: April 08, 2011, 03:18:59 PM »
Important info to share

I just heard over lunch from a senior police officer who used to look
after Drugs Enforcement.  He said that the current trick is for either :

1). Slip drugs into your luggages at the luggage belt, especially
soft luggages with many external side pockets, and let you carry it
out through Customs, and get from you outside if you get
through. Many unsuspecting passengers have been arrested this way.
PREVENTION : use hard suitcases with no side pockets

2). Sometimes there will be an old lady who will pretend not to be able
to carry the luggage and ask you to help carry out through Custom.
PREVENTION : Never help anyone carry luggages out

He said that these practices are mostly in China, India, Sydney, and
several other airport. Many Thais are in jail overseas and many in
China have been executed !!!

Please be very careful.

Thanks for the tips. Ms. Hof. I personally have no problem there. As much as I could I always try to appear unapproachable when traveling, to fellow travelers and officials alike. Besides, I'm a loner even when I'm at rest; I'm even more so when I'm in motion.

from Butuan Police Force;

Butuan police shares tips to avoid being a robbery, snatch-theft victim this summer

by Robert E. Roperos

BUTUAN CITY, Apr. 22 (PIA) -- “You cannot be a victim if you will not allow robbers and snatchers to victimize you.”

This is probably one of the popular reminders we always hear from police officers and local authorities, giving warning to be at all times watchful and not to give suspects the opportunity to victimize anyone.

The Butuan City Police Office recently shared tips for the public to observe and follow especially this summer season when people tend to spend their vacation in resorts, beaches, and other places in the provinces just to cool themselves and have relaxing experience.

Here are six tips identified by the police forces which may be of help for a safe and enjoyable vacation this summer:

Tip # 1: When dining at a hotel, restaurants or any eatery, do not leave your handbag or laptop on the table or hanging on the side of a chair. This gives the thief the opportunity to rob those valuable things.

Tip # 2: Do not attract attention by wearing expensive jewelry. You never know if there is a thief among your fellow travelers. Travel 'light' and preferably, leave jewelry in a safety deposit box in the bank or at home.

Tip # 3: Do not leave your prized possessions in the hotel room while you go out. Always bring with you your valuable things whenever you will go out in your room.

Tip # 4: Always carry your passport and identity card with you. Please be reminded that these are important documents that you must have in your possession every time you have to go to other place especially if it’s a distance away from the hotel you’re staying.

Tip # 5: Never go off the beaten track alone. If you are venturing out somewhere unknown, go in a group. There is safety in numbers, so don’t stay away from a group if you’re traveling alone and if you’re in a group, do the same.

Tip # 6: Never keep all your cash in one place. In that way, if you lose your wallet or handbag, you will still have money.

These are just some of the friendly reminders of BCPO. Remember, there is no such thing as to be alert and watchful at all times.
