Baguio Convention and Visitors Bureau (BCVB) chairperson and Hotels and Restaurants Association of Baguio President (HRAB) President Anthony De Leon affirmed the booming tourism industry in the city this yuletide season.
De Leon, in a kapihan forum on Wednesday, said that based on HRAB monitoring, almost all of their member establishments are now having 100 percent occupancy rate, aside from the high volume of vehicles, tourist buses and increasing schedule of daily trips from the regular bus companies in the city.
Compared to the previous years, De Leon said Baguio city has more visitors this time. Aside from the colder weather that greet visitors and the usual Christmas events and activities that the city government of Baguio prepared, private sector- led yuletide events and activities also play big role in enticing tourists to come up in the city.
For Baguio Country Club (BCC) alone, whom De Leon is the General Manager, their free concerts – featuring the famous bands of free style, side A and South border last December 27 and RJ Jacinto on Dec. 28 drew very big crowd.
The BCC’s Christmas Village, which decorations were made from recycled materials and made by the BCC employees and their families, also draws big crowd since it opened and with a snow show three times a day – morning, noon and evening, it now averages about 3,000 visitors a day.
SM City Baguio also has its own share of fun, entertainment and other enticing activities or events for its visitors this yuletide season.
According to De Leon, with the private sector doing its share in coming out with tourism activities and events whole year round, as well as with active promotions of such event in partnership with the city government of Baguio, the city’s tourism sector will get a fair or even better share of tourist arrivals compared to the other key tourist destinations in the country.
