Araw ng Dabaw 2010 Celebrates women and power
Written by: Ruivivar , Patmei Bello-
Tuesday, 16 February 2010

YES, despite the crisis and our preoccupation with the 2010 elections, Davaoeños will certainly celebrate the 73rd Charter Anniversary of our beloved City of Davao on March 16, 2010.
Mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte has asked Mr. Jaime Jose Y. Aboitiz, President and CEO of Davao Light & Power Company (DLPC), to be his private sector Co-Chair for the 73rd Araw ng Dabaw celebration, and Mr. Aboitiz has accepted and mobilized DLPC to give its full support.
This year’s celebration theme is “Katatagan ay Kapangyarihan: Pagpapatibay at Pagdiriwang!” (Stability is Power: Affirmation and Celebration), which shall affirm and celebrate the various sources of stability that give Davao power and empower its diverse peoples to make the city what it is today and shape what it will be in the future.

March also being International Women’s Month, this year’s Araw ng Dabaw will also pay tribute to the strong and empowered women of Davao City and celebrate its many milestones in mainstreaming gender issues and concerns in all aspects and levels of development. After all, women comprise half of the population, we must manage half of the power.  Certainly, women are an important resource and source of stability in Davao City. Mayor Duterte wants the celebration highlights this year packed into three days only compared to seven to five days in other celebrations in the past. So all major events will happen between March 14 to 16, 2010. The major events that Davaoeños always expect every year are: Mutya ng Dabaw 2010, Datu Bago Awards 2010, Museo Dabawenyo Historical Exhibit, Agro-Industrial Fair, SaliDabaw, Sayawan sa Da’n, Banda Hudyaka, People’s Park Presents, and Parada Dabawenyo.

New events that highlight women entrepreneurship and empowerment featured this year are the Mag-Negosyo ta, Day! Fair Trade Bazaar and Kaon ta, Day, Lingaw ta Bay! — both initiatives of the highest-ranking woman official of the city, Vice-Mayor Sara Zimmerman Duterte.  So we are calling all Davaoeños to participate in the various events lined up for this year’s Araw ng Dabaw celebration. After all, this is our day! For more details, please contact the Secretariat at 224-5885 (look for Arlene).
