Sir, can please ask you a question, i am not from bohol but i joined this forum so i can ask for your help with our visa application. we're planning to get a visa next year, by january, because my grandfather n grandmother will renew their tourist visa, we will all apply with them including our family and my uncle's family. im a registered nurse just last june 2009, i figured if i tell them that im a registered nurse, they will deny me at once. what can u advice me to tell them? im unemployed now and do not have plans of applying for a job yet because im reviewing for my NCLEX which i will take next year. i dont have plans to be a TNT there because my bf is an immigrant and will petition me at once when he becomes a citizen. my only purpose is for travel and tour with my family and this is true. i want to visit my boyfriend there too. and my aunt who i havent seen for 15 years. btw, my mom and dad are separated but not divorced. will they look for my father because he's based in taiwan. i have a sister who's 15 years old and my mom is 44 years old.

what can you advice me to do about this? im hoping for your reply. thank you very much.

i agree with Bai Bedo's suggestions above ^, just wanna add a few tidbits :)

if you're applying with ur mom and ur younger siblings, then this may be a family interview so ur mom will do most of the talking. if ur mom has already travelled before you got a big chance of approval;

if not, your mom has to prove to them that you have enough money for your travel and you have more than enough reasons that ur family will surely go back to pinas like her job, house, properties; this will prove that ur family will not be TNT....also it wud help a lot of you have a relative from the USA who can give you a written invitation of financial support.

gudlak :)

Testingi lang ug apply Sir.  Pasuertihay ra na.  Basta kabalo lang ka manubag murag dako tsansa unya dili ma rattle sa interview.  Either you apply in good faith or with a premeditated lies and your answers are all consistent, I think you have a good chance.   Just prepare everything, pray and believe that you can pass the interview and that's it.

God luck.

Halo Tamoy05,

Di ko sure sa unsay pama-agi aneng pagkuha ug student visa.  Ang akong eka share kadtong akong experience man lamang sa pagkuha sa tourist visa.

Anyway, naka dungog nako ene nga situation from my friends.  Di man siguro ka pangita-an ug proof nga nag skwela jud ka.  Ang importante nga naka secure ka ug student visa.  Kung dili lang ka mag TNT murag wa man siguro problema during the validity of your visa, maka lusot lusot man siguro ka sa immigration.   Ang uban gane mag tourist una dayon apply ug student visa kay ang ga apason maka kuha ug ID #  (murag sa ato nga SSS #) ug mao "kono" himo-on nga stepping stone para maka trabajo WITH benefits especially medical kay paet kono manarbajo nga walay medical.

Thanks,

Halo Tamoy05,

A related article below may answers your query.   Full article here  http://www.immigrationqna.info/  .

Good luck,

Bedo

+----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Who is Allowed to Study in the United States?

A nonimmigrant is someone who temporarily comes to the United States for a specific purpose. People who wish to pursue full-time academic or vocational studies are usually admitted to the United States in one of two nonimmigrant categories. The M-1 category includes students in vocational or other nonacademic programs, other than language training. The F-1 category includes academic students and students in language training programs.

How Can I Change My Nonimmigrant Status to Become a Student if I Am Already in the United States?

You must be in valid nonimmigrant status in order to apply for a change of status to a student visa and generally, you must be eligible to change status under immigration laws. If you are not eligible to change status due to the type of your nonimmigrant visa, there are certain waivers you may qualify to apply for. Please consult an immigration attorney for more information.

To change status, you first must apply to study at an USCIS-approved school in the United States. When you contact a school that you are interested in attending, you should be told immediately if the school accepts foreign national students. If you are accepted, the school should send you USCIS Form I-20 M-N/ID (Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant (M-1) Student Status - For Vocational Students).

You must submit this form, your I-94 (Arrival-Departure Record), and a completed USCIS Form I-539 (Application to Extend/Change Nonimmigrant Status) to the USCIS. You must also prove that you have the financial resources required for your education and stay in the United States.

Can I Travel Outside of the United States?

Students may leave the United States and be readmitted after temporary absences. When making your travel plans, please remember that you must be a full-time student to keep your M-1 student status. Upon your return to the United States, you should provide immigration inspectors with:

1. A valid passport.
2. A valid M-1 entry visa stamped in the passport (if necessary). A current USCIS Form I-20 ID signed by your designated school official (you should have the designated school official sign your USCIS Form I-20 each time you wish to temporarily travel outside the United States).
3. A new USCIS Form I-20 M-N/ID if there have been any substantive changes in your course of study or place of study.
4. Proof of your financial support.

lisod sab baya mag student visa kay nag strikto na...kay paulion jud daw ka human ma completo imong skoling...ang himoon sa uban mangitag american citizen makig minyo na lng... swerte2x sab

hey guys im new here.. hey bedoadosalada.. u give really nice advice.. :)

just want to share that im getting my visa renewed next week together with my 3 brothers. my parents got theirs renewed last year coz they got earlier than ours. so my older bro is 23 and works for our business, still live with my parents. im 21 and just graduated from nursing last june and is currently taking up masteral. my younger bro is 17 and is in 1st yr college- pharmacy while my youngest is 16 and is in 4th year high school.

im scared that me and my older bro wont be granted na.. coz we're both over 21 and still dependent on our parents. what should i say that would convince them that i'm coming back? coz its obvious that they're pretty skeptical about nurses. plus i just recently graduated. and i can't lie that i finished another course coz i got a certificate of school registration that said im taking up masters of arts in nursing. we've been there several times in the 10yr span of our visa and have also visited several asian countries. our last trip to the states was last christmas break. but will the travel history matter? they say it doesnt anymore. im really scared. i think my younger brothers would be fine but we never know.

i dont know the whole process coz when we got ours the first time, my dad said it was through "drop-box". the travel agnecy sent our passports there and when it came back, it already had the visa. they werent so strict then so we didnt have to do any personal appearance in manila.

so please if u could shed some light and tips.. hehe thanks so much!

Hi,

Merry christmas to you and to your family.  Let's see if I get your questions right.

The way I see it is that you have a big chance of getting your visa.  I think the word "renewal" is not applicable right now. Once it expired you have to apply as a new applicant.  Unlike before, you just have to send your passport via the drop box.

Your travel history in and out of our country will matter most for the last 2 to 3 years.  Worst comes to worst, you may bargain more on the business with your brother that you are a co-manager of his business. The officer might not ask what your course is but on your present occupation.  So just say you are managing a family business with your brother.  Of course you have to support this one with the related documents.

Sige good luck and good night.

Bedo

my brother is managing my parent's business. so he's like working for them. i just filled out our DS-156 forms tonight and i placed his occupation as 'business' and 'none' on employer (coz it presuming he is managing his own business and i think my parents are going to put some money into his account for a while). and also on the question who's going to pay for the trip, is it ok if he puts "me and my parents"? coz our friend who was 24 said his parents were paying for the trip, he got denied and the officer said "you are over 21, why are u still dependent on your parents?"

anyways, i placed my occupation as a student coz i have no assets or bank accounts whatsoever. i just have a joint account with my dad. so i think the officer would ask what course im taking since im 21 and still a student. that's going to be the tricky part. if i say im going to be managing the business when i graduate, why bother taking up masters if i dont have plans to work in my field? but if i say i plan to be a clinical instructor here, that are not long-term plans...

so yeah. big dilemma. hehe

Hi 3Maria8,

First and foremost, greet the officer with a smile and with these words   "Merry christmas".   :)

Sorry for not getting back to you lately.  Anyways, 3 things for you for this question -  " What do you madam? "

1.  Tell the officer that you just graduated ( in nursing or any other course) ;
2.  Tell the officer that you are managing the family business;
3.  Tell the officer that you are still a student.

By law of elimination, I would go either for #2 or 3.  But the best choice should be #2.  Be bold to tell the officer that you are helping the family business HERE in the philippines. Your travel in and out of the country for the last 10 years should be a guarantee and will be a big plus on your interview.  Just don't forget to bring your old passport.  During the interview, hold this in your hand and catch the attention of the officer of your green passport (?).  You could dictate and reroute the course of the interview with your travels in the past.  Some interviews could go this way assuming you pass the pre-screening.   :)

Purpose of travel?  Vacation or leisure with my family.

Have you prepared possible questions that might be asked during the interview?  On the part that you might be scrutinized, you should prepare answers that will leave no doubt to the officer.  By being articulate to the officer will help a lot throughout the interview. Don't project yourself with a heavy facial expression.  These officers are psyching every applicant and the moment they think you are not sure and confident with your answers, they will not waste time turning down your application.

Of course you have to pray and ask this from the Lord that you can make it.

If you have questions, you may email me.

Good luck and merry christmas !   Have faith in yourself.

Bedo

hi!

i want to apply for a tourist visa to US for the mere purpose of meeting someone. do u think i'd be granted a visa if i tell them the truth that i met someone online and i really like the person and he wants me to go there and meet up personally because he's too afraid to come to the philippines due to the current situation? i will ask for only a week or two, i just want to meet the person, not interested to travel, and i only have enough money to sustain me for that length of stay. after that, i will come back because i have to take care of my diseased dad, my mom is old and i have to take care of our family business too. should i say i am not planning to get married and i just want to really get to know him personally without them asking me that? what else could they be asking me? and what are the chances of me getting a visa if i'd be totally honest to them?

Thank you!

Regards,

Ado

hi!

i want to apply for a tourist visa to US for the mere purpose of meeting someone. do u think i'd be granted a visa if i tell them the truth that i met someone online and i really like the person and he wants me to go there and meet up personally because he's too afraid to come to the philippines due to the current situation? i will ask for only a week or two, i just want to meet the person, not interested to travel, and i only have enough money to sustain me for that length of stay. after that, i will come back because i have to take care of my diseased dad, my mom is old and i have to take care of our family business too. should i say i am not planning to get married and i just want to really get to know him personally without them asking me that? what else could they be asking me? and what are the chances of me getting a visa if i'd be totally honest to them?

Thank you!

Hi P,

You will have a chance but of course that will depend on how you can convince the officer during the interview.  I have a friend who has a same situation in you and she was denied.  However, on her 2nd application she was granted.

Also, why not ask your friend to sponsor a fiancee visa for you?

Regards,

Bedo

From Ms. E of Davao:

Yes, you can secure DS 157 from BDO first and fill this up manually.  The DS 156 is accomplished online (not manually written).  After all you have prepared these, you can schedule your interview either by online (visapoint) or via phone call.

Good luck,

Bedo

For Ms. C (Mktg / PR Executive) of Manila,

Yes, you can hire a travel agency.  In DS 157, you have to indicate that you have already have a travel arrangements with a travel tour.  That will help a lot in your preparations both in the interview and docs preparation.

You sister will have a good chance also noting she is connected with a big IT group.

Good luck and happy weekend,

Pray hard.

To Ms. L (Cebu),

Eng-ana ra jud na ang pag apply.  Pa swertihay ra jud na.  Of all the efforts and preparations and had been asked for only 3 questions and got denied, that is really cruel.

Try to apply next time.

Regards,

Bedo

According to her,  her first application was denied with this reason - unable to establish strong ties in the Phils.  No documents were asked and her application was denied.  She was nervous and uneasy at the time of the intervew (kono).

On her 2nd interview, gi tarayan nya ang officer with this statement - Don't tell me you'll going to deny me this time!

Pa swertihay ra na Ms. P.   Basta ayaw lang ka rattle sa interview.  Prepare everything and pray hard.

Regards,

Bedo

Aha, salamat Jas.

I think M'am/Sir Enad is in the country where visa waiver program is in effect.  Unfortunately, the Philippines is not included and will never be.  :-[

Anyway, nice info.

Thanks,

Ado

Congratulations to those who passed the interview.  For those unlucky applicants especially singles, pag minyo sa mo.  (joke).

For those inquiring, please see check your emails.  Sorry for the late reply.  I'm on an IT project meeting some critical deliverables. Can only attend to non-work related emails only during weekends.

Regards,

Bedo
