I know this is "out of topic" but what the heck, I have to tell the truth about pinoy cpa's.
Starting in 2004, Filipino cpa's (particularly auditors) were being hired in large volumes by the big 4 auditors (i.e. PwC, Deloitte, E&Y, KPMG) to work in the US/UK/Australia/Ireland etc. Several thousands of auditors (myself included) have left philippine firms like sgv, p&a, laya, & manabat for "greener pasture" abroad. Greener means having to work 7 hours a day instead of 16, and earning an equivalent of you annual philippine salary in just one month. Currently its not only the big 4 auditors who noticed the competence of filipino cpa's, the world's biggest like Citigroup, HSBC, etc. started hiring filipino number crunchers. In the city where I work, one of the biggest employers of pinoy accountants is Citigroup.
I would say filipino cpa's are now at par with the world's best. Thanks to Enron and philippine's adoption of IFRS. After Enron's fall, US regulators changed the reporting requirements for public companies which requires accounting firms more people to do the audit. Philippine's full adoption of IFRS (International Financial Reporting Standards) in 2005 was also a big factor, this made filipinos cpa's very familiar with accounting standards used in most countries.
What happened to Sir macky's friend a long time ago will no longer apply to today's pinoy cpa. At least not in the next two or three years.
