Acer is recalling six models of laptops after reports of short circuits that could cause users to get burned, the
U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
A wire that goes to the internal microphone can overheat. The wire runs under the area where users would rest their palms.
About 22,000 of the Chinese-made computers are being recalled. They are in Acer's Aspire line, have 13.3-inch screens and the following model numbers: AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG. They were sold from June-October 2009 for $650-$1,150.
Acer told the CPSC the company had heard from three laptop users whose cases started to melt. No injuries were reported.
Consumers are asked to stop using the laptops and contact Acer. If the laptop is subject to the recall, the company will provide a free repair. - walletpop.com
