Pursuant to the economic vision of President Benigno Aquino III, the Technology Resource Center (TRC) is spearheading the country’s drive towards global technological competitiveness and self-sufficiency through innovative technology projects.
TRC Director General Dennis L. Cunanan said the center is now working hand-in-hand with key government agencies and private sectors to come up with a Philippine-made train coaches, monorail system, power-generating windmills and industrial cranes –all using inexpensive, Philippine indigenous materials.
Cunanan said the coming up with these projects would prime economy while making the country more globally competitive.
This is in accordance with TRC’s upgraded functions as spelled out by Secretary Mario Montejo of the Department of Science and Technology, TRC’s parent agency, he said.
Montejo earlier announced that the DOST is delving into innovative technology solutions to help boost the economy and solve pressing problems of the country as per the instruction of President Aquino.
Among the innovative solutions that being pursued by the DOST are the manufacturing of an innovative “mosquito trap†to counter the dengue menace, produce a locally-made computer tablet to revolutionize the public education system and develop a cost-effective ‘health sachet’ to address the malnutrition problem.
In an effort to expedite the realization of these goals, Montejo resolved to course them through TRC.
TRC is a government-owned and controlled corporation more popularly known for its role in disseminating a variety of livelihood technologies through hands-on training and the publication of its education booklets and VCD’s. - pna
