Hi all,
A modest proposal: a study group for programmers, based in Tagbilaran. Our focus would be on
Design Patterns. These are the refined models - building blocks - of programming, often reused.
As wikipedia summarises:
"In software engineering, a design pattern is a general repeatable solution to a commonly occurring problem in software design. A design pattern is not a finished design that can be transformed directly into code. It is a description or template for how to solve a problem that can be used in many different situations." Read more about them here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Design_pattern_(computer_science) Why do programmers need such a group to discuss this topic in particular? Because they're sometimes tricky to understand and difficult to remember if you just read about them. Many times I've read about Patterns - only to later forget all but the basics. Hopefully we can discuss examples and gain insights from each other.
The benefits: with a deep understand of this stuff you can write
code!
I hope there is some interest from people working in software development, students and academics. If you are interested post below and we'll organise it!
Cheers,
Ben
disclaimer:
It's not an original idea, see
