Is Yahoo Unfair to Gmail?
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:15:56 PM »
Few days ago I complained of Yahoo's crazy Spam algorithms. My dissatisfaction and disgust of Yahoo's e-mail system became more unendurable when many of e-mails (newspaper articles) sent from Gmail went to the Spam folder of Yahoo. But none of Yahoo's e-mails ever landed on my Gmail's Spam folder.

Isn't it unfair that Yahoo is not treating Gmail nicely while Gmail is very sweet to Yahoo? Is this intentional? When will Yahoo make a concrete action on this troubling issue?

Now today I read Stephen Bakers's blog in Businessweek Online and I can only sympathized with Stephen's courtesy of Yahoo.

This is what Stephen Baker of businessweek.com has said:

I was on the road yesterday, in Washington, and trying to close a story at the same time. I had my editor send messages to my Yahoo account, which goes into my (personal) Blackberry. Today I see that Yahoo stuffed all of his mail into my spam folder. Doesn't its machine they see that I do a lot of legitimate traffic with addresses ending in businessweek.com? Could it possibly be because my article mentions the word "spam?" and "viagra?" Could their spam filter be working on such primitive key words? (I just experimented on that, sending the same story to my Yahoo account, and it got through.)

This issue extends far beyond spam. If Yahoo wants to close the gap with Google, the company must teach its machines to analyze our written words (and other data) with ever greater sophistication and precision. Am I wrong to think that a spam filter this far out of kilter signals problems in that area?

Galen, I was sending articles to the Bohol Standard and then moingon sila sa office didto sa ato nga wala sila kadawat sa articles, unja diay ang hinungdan tua gibutang sa Yahoo ang Gmail e-mails nako sa SPAM folder. It's unfair kay kadaghan na gud ko nagpadala ug e-mail using the same address sa sender ug recipients.

Anyway, Businessweek Magazine has confirmed my suspension.
