A total of 63 new information technology (IT) parks, 12 of them in Metro Cebu, are being developed nationwide, says House Deputy Majority Leader and Pasig City Rep. Roman Romulo.

A press statement from his office reported that 41 of the emerging IT parks are in the provinces while 22 are in the National Capital Region.

”We strongly favor the advancement of new IT parks in highly urbanized corners outside Metro Manila. This will spur balanced economic growth all over the country,” said Romulo, who supports labor-intensive, IT-enabled business process outsourcing (BPO).

According to his statement, seven of the new IT parks are in Cebu City: FLB Corporate Center, GAGFA IT Center, GT times Square, HMDF-WTCI IT Tower, Innove IT Plaza, Maria Cristina IT building and Quimonda IT Center.

Five are in Mandaue City: GGVPI IT Zone, Hi Point IT Towers 1, 2 and 3, and Taft IT Park.

Similar parks are also being developed in Bacong, Sibulan and Dumaguete City, all in Negros Oriental.

Romulo described IT parks and BPO firms as “powerful drivers of jobs creation, consumption and overall economic growth.”

They are the dominant tenants in IT parks registered with the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.
