John 3:16-18 ESV
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

Mike, I think many here are wise cynics who know that company claims amount to nothing if you're out in Bohol and wondering if your Internet is going to work :).

So I would definitely like to join the chorus of people asking if anyone has tried the service in this area.

Globe's web site is no help.  They actually have a "Service Area" menu option that leads to this:

http://site.globe.com.ph/customer_support/faqs/self_help_globe_broadband?sid=S-S2dsuxpRcAACV9dpAAAACJe

The service appears to be available in "Selected Areas Nationwide".  I'm pretty sure that means Metro Manila is covered :).

I hope I'm just being too cynical :)

Anyone know?

I have changed my internet connection from smartbro to globe's wi-max under the above plan.  It's faster than smartbro and connection is quite stable.  Viewing youtube is now faster and uninterrupted.  Globe wi-max can be operated using the indoor antenna or the much faster using the outdoor mounted square antenna (preferred).

There are limitations especially if your are using a pptp VPN connection.  With smartbro this is okay but with globe wi-max, you have to download  OpenVPN.

However, there are times the speed is lower than the max 3 bars. Labina ug daotan ang panahon.   Depende gihapon sa signal and location sa subscriber.  If the area has no cellphone tower (as the term wireless broadband implies), the connection maybe slow in some areas.  Go out and check first your location.  Not all are faster even if naka wi-max.   :'(

And i'm waiting a communications engineer and an expert I know here in TB to comment on the wi-max especially on the signalling method.  Sakay sa cell site ?  Or it really has a separate transmission method other than cell sites.

Based on this article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wimax

it appears to be the same as "4G" cellular service, and so we can reasonably assume, until being told otherwise, that it works using the same general cellular mechanism, but requires separate radios.  (You can see what a WiMax base station looks like in the article).

The more interesting question is where this is being deployed, which is where Globe's information is maddeningly vague.

I agree with you David.  Noting the communications infrastructure in the country, i think wi-max is still using their cellphone tower transmitters but using different frequencies intended for wimax subscribers.  In some articles that I read, wi-max is supposed to have it's own base station transmitters.

I'm fairly happy with wimax.  Viewing youtube videos  and local TV stations streaming is uninterrupted (as what globe sales people kept on saying).  Doing video/voice call in YM / skype is also reliable  (VoIP - voice over IP technology).

Still, it is better to inquire direct with Globe in your area.
