Allow Me To Express a Sentiment about Sandugo Festival '08
« on: July 05, 2008, 11:05:02 AM »
Are our standards as Boholano people deteriorating?

Has Tagbilaran City's brand of friendliness gone completely down the drain?

Why is the celebration this bad?

Why are all the stands in front of the city hall?  Why not at the pier where it used to be?  For goodness' sake, na-mura na man intawon ug piryahan na diha dapita uy!  The city hall looks very degraded with all the "banderitas" and what not.

Moreover, kanang Miss Bohol Sandugo, na-unsa na man na?  It has almost completely lost its symbolism already.  Di na lang ko mo-state sa akong reasons kay ambot!  Lisod na!  I think you all get the point.

PLUS, LET ME POINT OUT A HUGE IRONY: Why are there stands selling pirated DVDs there?  Atubangan pa jud na sa city hall ha!  Atubangan!  Why did they allow that?  Kahibaw mo, kagwang jud na'ng mga tao nga kusog kaajo mo-implement sa ilang own quasi-draconian policies and yet mu-neglect na lang anang pagka-simple nga "INTERNATIONAL" anti-piracy law.  They are setting a terrible example to the public!

Grabe!  Wa na 'ju'y sense of culture and heritage ni nga Celebration.  It's supposed to be the commemoration of an earth-shaking milestone that took place in our province centuries ago.  The blood compact.  "'san dugo".  But tan-awa ra gud na'ng blurb sa festival website.  http://sandugo.tagbilaran.gov.ph/2008/bsfi.php  There is nothing here that speaks in line with what's supposedly being celebrated.  Puros tourism ek-ek.  Well, there's nothing wrong with tourism but at least man lang bisan tu-od ug kahibaw sila nga kahibaw na ang tana'ng tao ug para-asa na'ng Sandugo Festival, di 'jud gihapon angay i-leave-out uy!  Aber, in that kind of analogy, di na lang kintahay magdala ug passport sa airport inig-larga sa lai'ng nasud kay confident na kaayo ka-ila na ang tana'ng tao?  Think about it.  It seems nga this celebration is happening just for the sake of festivities.  Festival na lang gani, di na celebration.

Goodness gracious!  What's happening to us?  What's happening to Tagbilaran City?  Nakahinomdom pa mo sa time nila Gardy Labad and such people?  Although he had his shortcomings, he did something great to Bohol that would never be forgotten.  He helped put Bohol on top of the list.  But where is this kind of spirit now?  Wala na 'ju'y traces.  What ever happened to all the cultural fuss I used to enjoy as a little kid?  The LCC concerts at The Metro Centre, the golden singing voice of Da Maris singing Bisaya songs, "Dagon sa Hoyohoy", "The Oracle", "El Indio Bravo", and what not.  Asa na man ni'ng mga butanga?  Wa na'y kaya?  Crisis?  Hah!  That's such a lame excuse!

Forgive me sa tanan nga na-affected sa akong statements.  Nothing personal.  Don't get angry kay tinu-od ni!  The veracity of this is indubitable!  Basta kay wa ko ganahi ani 'ron!

To say that I'm appalled right now is a sheer understatement!  Ambot na lang 'jud!

Well, I'm not your average teenage guy.  I think that statement is overused already.  And it's become a statement most stereotypical teenagers use.  Hence, contrary to what they're saying, most youngsters who use that statement are, in fact, typical and average, "nothing-special" teenagers.  But I say I'm different because I really am.  [hehehehe! Yabang much?]

Anyway, yeah!  I'm longing for something that feels REAL!  As in real jud!  Not something that'd make me REEL!  [hehehe!]

I really do hope "THEY" come across this.

That is the truth. Correct kaayo Ms. simplylee.

Let me share you about SANDUGO FESTIVAL. At first, it was quite simple...  I was one of the first part of this events in the year of the 70's during the regime of Mayor Rolando Butalid.  Bag-o pa gjod nga gi cleaningan o gibaol ang gitikuran karon sa monumento ni Sikatuna ug Ligaspi Blood Compact.  I was the first one who was the leading lady of that drama written by Ex- Prov'l. Fiscal Jacinto Bautista and with the assistance of Mr. Toots Gonzales Ravina from Cebu Radio Drama writer, he was very much popular on that time. (si Slao ahong pares - who knows him patay na tawon, the owner of Slao Art sa eskina sa Tamblot). We had that popular and LUDABI group (Lunsay'g Drama nga Binisaya - where we presented dramas in Baclayon, Tagbilaran, K of C fiestas)  I have one photo here on that time where I played as Princesa of Bohol island before the Spaniards came. Palamout but memorable one. Sayang lang....there were not too much photos produced on that time and video taking was still out of place.  The part of that scene was a parade of the students from different schools and the Bohol Prov'l. capitol office personnel who were also our audience before not like now that it is more political and commercial views.  It has nothing more to do with the history.  Ja...ja old nice days.

more political and commercial views.  It has nothing more to do with the history.

Mao jud ni... exactly what I was trying to say about MBS and the entire festival...
no more soul... just some carcass of what used to be a lively and spirited celebration...

Commercialism invading these types of events are far from new, but regardless, it is definitely a shame. During the Fourth of July I wondered if I could just walk up to any kid on the block and ask them about the history behind "America's Independence".

You had expressed your honest opinion, that is very good.  Maybe the Sandugo as event was highly commercialized?

Well, as I recall... Bohol is one of the most popular tourist spots in the Philippines. It's not unusual to think that an event like this can bring x amount of pesos and even more business for the city.  ;D

It takes the initiative of creative people to bring artistry without altering the essence of the celebration...sa sunod nga Sandugo festival... we hope to infuse some enhancements...

commercialization is not bad.. and neither is a capitalist mentality... just as long as the spirit is retained in the process of infusing these things...

in the latter case, it wasn't!  the soul was gone... like I said.. it was like some sort of carcass of a once-meaningful celebration...

Complaining about the not so happy results of Sandugo 2008 will not bring any positive results. If we are going to this, we must be also in the position to give alternatives how it will be done better next time. We put in our minds that Bohol has a very good reputation here in Europe and it is the only country in Asia with a certification from the Environmental groups ( ISO 9000).
May I suggest that the Wow Philippines and any authorities concerned about presenting the tourism and cultural side of our province,   be mobilized.
There are some people in-charge in their offices (provincial or local).
If we use this website, connections´, influences and the like, there will be a better images for sure since our intentions are honest and pure.
