On April 3, 2023, Pangapasan Island in Tubigon, Bohol hosted a Young Eco-Warriors Day event organized by JCI Chocolate Hills and JCI Bohol Sandugo in collaboration with DepEd and other partners. The event aimed to raise awareness about environmental protection and sustainability among children and women in the community.
The event featured various activities such as a Solidarity dance led by some of the candidates for Dyosa sa Tubigon and the Proud Gays of Tubigon, a Draw and Tell activity with all pupils of Pangapasan Elementary School, and a Story Telling Activity led by JCI Chocolate Hills in collaboration with DepEd.
The children were asked to show different things like who they wanted to be in the future, how we could better protect the environment around us, and to create works of art with recycled materials. The children showed us their dreams, their visions and they made us realize how much they understood the importance of our environment and how much they want to be part of the solution.
The Story Telling Activity was about a boy named San-San who lived on Pangapasan Island and who led efforts to protect his island from pollution and save his family. The story was meant to inspire children to take action for positive change.
Simultaneously, DSWD mentors and Kalipi Upcycling Resource Entrepreneurs - Tagbilaran City Chapter held a livelihood workshop for women on the island. They taught them how to use recycled plastics and turn them into different types of everyday items like bags and pouches.
The event was a success as it brought together different stakeholders in the community who share a common goal of protecting our environment for future generations.
