more power sa imuha fiel and i support you all the way for promoting bohol and most especially panglao.
TRUTH BE TOLD:
My father, DERCLO REPARATO BONGOYAN ARAOARAO (Danao, Panglao), served as Mayor of Panglao, Bohol in 1980 to 1986. Because of that, even in my humble capacity as half-Panglaonon, and my LOVE for culture and the arts which my mother WINCESA ESPEJO ARAOARAO (Cogon, Tagbilaran City), founder of the Bohol National High School Bukang Liwayway Dance Troupe in 1979, has imbued in me, I have always supported cultural promotion endeavors in Panglao, especially because Ma'am Nila and Sir Frank Montero and I have been friends dating back to the time I was president of the DML Montessori School Parents-Teachers Association (election based on capacity, clear goals and objectives and developmental programs for the benefit of the pupils and fellow parents).
I AM NOT THE TYPE TO RUIN REPUTATION OF FRIENDS, moreso, I RESPECT other people's opinions, hence, I expect the same consideration from you. I may come from a POOR family, but Papa Rep and Mama Wincie have NEVER FAILED to teach us MANNERS AND VALUES...Whatever personal biases you have against them, I have nothing to do with it because I have had good working relationships with them which contributed greatly to our goals in the DML Montessori, even up to now. Besides, these two people are the driving forces who unselfishly supported Anna Maris Arcay Igpit when she joined her first beauty pageant, Miss Bohol Sandugo 2003 (I was the lady of ceremonies of the talent competition) when she earned the first runner-up award, until she got the Miss Bohol Sandugo 2005 (I was part of the working committee) crown which paved the way to a higher level, that of the Binibining Pilipinas tilt.
Maris gave honor to Boholanos when she was crowned Binibining Pilipinas-World 2006, the highest honor held by a Boholana in the field of beauty pageants, which catapulted her to be the Philippines' official representative to the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world - Miss World - held in Warsaw, Poland in September 2006. Sad to note, I heard that SOME people in Panglao said that Maris' victory was "bought." MY GOD! That is such a DISHEARTENING / degrading statement! PARDON ME, but modesty aside, I won the title Miss Tagbilaran 1987 and was awarded "Miss Talent" - MY MOTHER DID NOT PAY FOR THAT TITLE! Pobre ra baya mi! ...Don't you think I deserve that? God knows I gave my best performance during that time baya...THAT IS WHY I FEEL STRONGLY / EMPATHIZE WITH BEAUTY PAGEANT WINNERS AND CANDIDATES...
We SHOULD learn to recognize the talents and capacity to excel of our fellow Boholanos. WHY CAN'T WE BE HAPPY that a fellow Boholano has given honor to our province, to think that there were other equally brilliant and beautiful Filipinas who even come from well-off / more prominent families in the country? How sad...
Why are we so quick to share in the victory of the Panglao streetdancing group when they landed 4th place in the Sinulog Festival 2006 in Cebu City during their first stint, and garnered the 3rd spot in the free interpretation category, from among the close to a hundred contingents coming from Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao and criticize Ma'am Nila, Sir Frank and the other Panglaonons who have worked so hard under the scorching heat of the sun, enduring countless sleepless nights of practices and worked on a meager budget as it they didn't deserve the award?
After I judged the "Hudyaka sa Panglao" streetdancing contest during the feast of Saint Augustine on August 28, 2006, Ma'am Nila, Sir Ondo and I explored the idea of a homecoming program for Panglaoanons (similar to the Tigum Bol-anon sa Tibuok Kalibutan - to include cultural shows and medical-dental missions) who are now settled in other countries. Personally, I was excited with the idea, after Rev. Fr. Linuel Canizares told me that Panglao has not celebrated its foundation day since. Then, we thought that August 2008 would be a good time to spark a celebration since it is the 225th anniversary of Saint Augustine Church.
AS A CULTURAL WORKER WHO IS SO ABSORBED WITH MY LOVE / PASSION FOR CULTURE AND THE ARTS, I WAS ONLY TOO HAPPY TO OFFER HELP - NO MONEY INVOLVED - LABOR OF LOVE, AND IN FACT, GAVE THEM THE WORKING PAPERS - PROPOSAL FOR THE ACTIVITIES AND SET-UP OF THE DIFFERENT WORKING COMMITTEES - WHICH WERE USED THE FIRST MEETING OF THE GROUP HELD AT METROCENTRE HOTEL IN SEPTEMBER OR OCTOBER OF 2006. IN FACT, THE TERM "TANDA-LANTAW" WAS CONCEIVED AFTER THE BRAINSTORMING I HAD WITH MS. VIRGILIA "NENENG" MAGALLANES - GENOSO, MY OFFICEMATE AT THE CITY HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT OFFICE.
I REMEMBER WHEN I WAS A KID, PAPA REP WOULD SAY "MOTANDA TA SA PANGLAO." I PERSONALLY PRESENTED THE TERM DURING THAT FIRST MEETING OF THE GROUP AS I WAS ONE OF ITS ORIGINAL COMMITTEE MEMBERS... NOW, IF YOU WILL PERSECUTE ME FOR HELPING THE GROUP OF MAYOR DUMALUAN OR BECAUSE I AM ONE OF THE AUTHORS OF THE "TANDA-LANTAW," THEN I AM GUILTY, BUT I AM ONLY CONCERNED BECAUSE I FEEL STRONGLY FOR PANGLAO. YOU CANNOT BLAME ME FOR THAT.
I FIRMLY BELIEVE THAT AS A MAJOR TOURIST DESTINATION IN THE COUNTRY, PANGLAO SHOULD INITIATE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES - OF WHICH ARTS AND CULTURE IS AN INTEGRAL COMPONENT - IF WE ARE REALLY SERIOUS IN PROMOTING / HELPING THE LOCAL TOURISM INDUSTRY, WHICH COULD GENERATE JOBS FOR THE MARGINALIZED SECTORS OF OUR SOCIETY...
WHY CAN'T WE BE UNITED TOWARDS A COMMON GOAL? WHY DO WE KEEP ON FINDING FAULTS IN OTHER PEOPLE, INSTEAD OF CHANNELING OUR EFFORTS FOR MORE POSITIVE ENDEAVORS FOR THE GOOD OF THE GREATEST NUMBER? WHY? PRAY TELL ME...

The CONBUSAC has been holding biennial conventions in its 21 years of existence. One of
the goals of these conventions is to foster comaraderie among Boholanos wherever they
may be. It is not surprising therefore that in each of the conventions of the CONBUSAC
there are always Boholanos from Bohol attending these conventions. This year is no
exception.
The CONBUSAC has an open invitation to each and every Boholano who wants to participate.
The CONBUSAC does not discriminate against anyone whatever their political affiliations
are.
Having said that, I am reiterating my invitation to you and to other Boholanos to join
us in San Francisco where we can really feel the Boholano brand of comaraderie.

coming to promote their activity for the TANDA LANTAW, they lied. DR. DUMALUAN is no
longer the mayor and Nila Montero is not a councilor. Gov. Erico Aumentado labelled them
anti-progress in Bohol. You can call the governor's office to ask about DUMALUAN''s
background.
