SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA. The countdown is on. After a long preparation and planning, the great expectations will soon come.
The 2007 Biennial Convention of Boholanos in USA and Canada (CONBUSAC), chronologically considered the 11th of its kind, is set July 26 to 29, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Golden Gateway in San Francisco, California.
Hosting the event is the Tagbilaran Association of Northern California (TANOCAL). Ted Apalisok, TANOCAL and concurrently CONBUSAC president, and Eve Calceta, chair of the steering committee with the full support of the TANOCAL and CONBUSAC officers, committee chairs and members are wrapping up every aspect of the convention plans to every detail to insure a smooth, orderly, successfully US Boholano gathering to remember at all times.
To recall, the notion of having a unified organizational convention was first brought out during a group meeting in the area where the coming event will take place. Holding this year's assembly in its place of origin is certainly a sweet thing to happen.
Set in the historic, financial, and cultural complex of the West, the City of the Golden Gate as historians call it, unique for its cable cars, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf and many other famous landmarks, San Francisco is ideally a special place to convene, savor and explore while the opportunity is still there.
Highlighting the assembly are the time-honored convention activities that give face to CONBUSAC. The four-day event will begin Friday, July 26. Preliminary activities which include assembly of TANOCAL officers, briefing of all convention committees, pre-registration of early arriving delegates and Miss CONBUSAC briefing and practice sessions will be the day's business. Early arrivals will get their first taste of the City's super landlocked harbor through the evening "Moonlight Bay Cruise" in San Francisco Bay.
Friday, July 27, the start of Convention proper, will be a time for fellowship and entertainment. Registration of delegates and council of leaders meeting will occupy the morning agenda.
Presentation of Miss CONBUSAC candidates will be the afternoon main event.
Vying for the coveted title as Miss CONBUSAC 2007 will be the cream of young, brainy beauties from the different member organizations in a rigid and stiff talent and swimsuit competitions. Lynnete Sumodobila and Carl Vengco, co-chairs of Miss CONBUSAC 2007 Pageant prepared the guidelines for the contest. Welcome-Family Night will be a family showtime when delegates and their families in International Costumes will come together in camaraderie and share fund during the presentations by organizations, dinner and dance.
Areas of general interest and concerns of the Confederation will be addressed and discussed during the general assembly and plenary session in the morning of Saturday, July 28. General elections of CONBUSAC officers for the 2007-2009 term will follow.
Gala Night in the evening of Saturday will be an evening of beauty and elegance. It is the defining moment of the event when conventioneers, their families and guests in formal attire will get together again to be a part and witnesses to the wondrous, exciting and significant events that feature the Miss CONBUSAC final judging, pageant and coronation, induction of newly elected officers, presentation and recognition certificates and awards, dinner and dance to the tune of a live band.
As a gesture of thanksgiving, a concelebrated holy mass will be celebrated in the morning of Sunday, July 29, the last day of the convention after which, there will be a whole-day San Francisco City Tour of sightseeing to the city's famous landmarks of relaxation and pleasure of those who have the time for it.(The Bohol Chronicle, June 24, 2007)
