The significant development of Philippine tourism today has improved the quality of life among Filipinos. This was the overview statement made by Emma Ruth Yulo, director of the Philippine Department of Tourism in New York.

Yulo was the guest speaker and inducting officer during the 16th Annual Sandugo - USA Family Club Christmas Party which was held Dec. 8 at the Forge Inn in Woodbridge, New Jersey.

According to Yulo, Philippine tourism has gained prominence worldwide with the aggressive promotion being conducted by the government and other concerned private entities with tourism-related business. She described the Philippines particularly Bohol now as a preferred tourist destination among foreigners. The booming tourism industry in the Philippines resulted in the creation of jobs and business opportunites translated into an escalating economic improvement, Yulo said.

Yulo sits as a board member of the prestigious Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), New York chapter.

PATA is the world's largest travel organization promoting travel to the Asia Pacific Region. Her most recent accomplishment was the creation of a Philippine Specialist Program seminar on the internet for travel agents in the United States under the the auspices of the Travel Agent Academy.

Luis Antonio Dejaresco was sworn-in as the new president of Sandugo USA Family club.

During his inaugural address, Dejaresco acknowledged the term Sandugo as a reference to the Blood Compact of Friendship entered into between Miguel Lopez de Legazpi representing Spain and Datu Sikatuna of Bohol, in what is known to be the first International Treaty of Friendship.

He described the club's primary direction towards helping Boholanos in need. For the past 15 years, the club has been a consistent donor to "Operation Alagad" in coordination with Station DYRD and the Bohol Chronicle. He challenged his fellow officers and members of the organization to pursue this fund raising drive in order to assist underprivileged Boholanos buy medicines in times of need.

"As I humbly accept the presidency tonite, I therefore appeal to all of you - to stand beside me and let us move this Club forward to greater heights". Dejaresco said. As the good book says "to whom much has been given, much will be asked". Since we are earning our keeps in this most affluent nation in the world, the need for us to share these blessings with those in need cannot be overstated, Dejaresco added.

Prominent Boholano personalities is what makes one proud to be a Boholano today.

Dejaresco explained that our Beloved province has produced a Philippine president Carlos Polistico Garcia, Senator Olegario Clarin of Loay and Congressman Simeon Toribio , a bronze medalist in the broad jump in the world Olympics.

Other distinguished Boholano personalities include Anna Mariz Igpit who was crowned Binibining Pilipinas last year.

Rey Boom-boom Bautista and AJ Bazooka Banal are world class boxers. The late Yoyoy Villame is a rare talent as is Jerome Sala. The film industry has the highest respect for our Boholano artists like actor Cesar Montano and film director Maryo delos Reyes.

Napoleon Abueva is a national artist for sculpture. Lest we forget, the angelic voiced and internationally-renowned Loboc Children's choir, Dejaresco said.

The newly inducted president expressed elation over the tremendous job of his predecessor Boni Dante and vice president Ed Frejoles who were instrumental in the shipment of medical equipment and supplies to different government hospitals in Bohol including the distribution of free laptop computers to various municipal and barangay schools in Bohol.

Recipients to the assorted medical supplies which included an operating room lamp, surgical gloves, linens, laboratory gowns, syringes, and sutures were the Cong. Simeon toribio Memorial Hospital in Carmen, Bohol, the Ubay Emergency Hospital and the Carmen center in Carmen.

Among those who received laptop computers include the Katipunan National High School in Carmen and the Policropio Dano Sr. High School in Nueva Fuerza, Carmen town. The schools in Bato Leyte province thru the Bato Leyte International Association were the recipients of some 11 desktop computers.

The other newly inducted officers of Sandugo USA Family Club were: Socorro Parras, 1st vice president; Magdalena Racho, 2nd vice president; Annabelle Tinampay, secretary; Magdalena Dejaresco, aast. Secretary; Josephine Sarabosing, treasurer; Estrellita Dante, asst. treasurer; Nilda Galang, auditor; Malou Galang, asst. auditor; Justiniano Parras, PRO; Lourdes Capili, asst. PRO; Edgardo Frejoles, Presidential Executive Adviser; Raymundo Sarabosing, legal adviser; Alex Dacula, business manager; Isabelo Remolador, Toefilo Maghuyop and Mernito Anasco, ways and means; Cyril Tinampay and Cesar Torrefranca, sports.

The board of director include: Boni D. Dante, immediate past president; Dean Racho, Claro Galang, Clifford Galang and Nena Dacula.

Meanwhile, the Sandugo Youth Club was recently organized with the following officers: Jay-Ann Galang, president; Cybelle Tinampay, vice president; Jade Frejoles, treasurer; Gabrielle Dompor, asst. treasurer; Bo Estelle S. Dante, secretary;Clarisse Galang, asst. secretary; Joy Sarabosng, auditor; Belle Estee Dante and Gene Dacula, ways and means; Joseph Galang, PRO; PJ Dacula and Lodgie Racho, Sargeant at Arms.
