The Bohol Chronicle Three Cebu City policemen facing charges of extortion were not transferred here in Bohol as earlier reported.
Central Visayas police director C/Supt. Silverio Alarcio bared in an interview with the Chronicle yesterday that the three police officers are being suspended for two months.
SPO1 Jaime Otadoy, PO3 Rey Albotra and PO1 Raniel Capangpangan of the Cebu City Police-Vice Control Section (VCS) could not be reassigned in Bohol, contrary to earlier reports, since they are under investigation and currently undergoing dismissal proceedings, Alarcio said.
Reports of the transfer was met with dissent from various sectors here.
The three policemen were accused by an arrested drug suspect of extortion. Otadoy was arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation, which conducted an entrapment operation at the Cebu City Police Office. Albotra and Capangpangan eluded arrest and are still at large.
In a separate interview, Bohol PNP director SSupt. Edgardo Ingking explained that he was apparently misquoted by Cebu newspapers after he was interviewed about the reported transfer of the three policemen.
According to Ingking, he did not receive any official order from the regional director regarding their reassignment. However, when asked by Cebu media to comment if he will accept the three policemen, Ingking said that if there is an order from his superior, he will accept the transfer.
He said he would prefer police to be assigned here who are Boholanos, for practical reasons that they do not have to regularly go to their home province, which could affect operations.
Ingking also prefers those who do not have pending cases.
Alarcio disclosed that 20 policemen from Cebu have been assigned here as additional personnel being requested by Ingking.
Ingking said 10 of the 20 are already reporting at the Tagbilaran City Police Office.
The other 10 new police personnel have yet to report here, Ingking added.
