The Bohol Chronicle

The "Botika sa Katawhan" of the Lim administration can reopen anytime as long they meet the two requirements with the Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD).

The requirement is to have the medicines registered with BFAD Manila before they can resume distribution to the beneficiaries, according to Ricah Aumentado, BFAD Bohol officer.

She said that since medicines given by the "botika" come from abroad, it has to pass BFAD clearance.

Aside from this requirement, BFAD suggested to Deputy City Mayor Mario Uy to have the project name changed since "botika" insinuates selling of medicines when in reality, the project is giving these medicines to indigent residents in the city as part of the priority project of Mayor Dan Lim.

The "botika" remains temporarily closed after it was rocked with controversy following the inquiry of opposition City Kagawad Djingo Rama and City Kagawad Edgar Kapirig for transparency of the funds supporting the project. The two city officials said the public deserves to know the funding especially that Uy has been collecting rentals from the "Hudyaka" at the city port allegedly to support the project.

Deputy Mayor Uy sharply reacted on the inquiry saying that the "botika" is a private initiative which has not used funds from the city government aside from the salaries of its personnel. Uy said the benefactors are his personal friends in the United States where he spent almost half of his life as a successful businessman. "I even spend my own money to support the project," Uy stressed.
