Can we call it sleeping with the enemy?

The question that has baffled a fact finding team digging into the Auxilio murder is that why would the cultural group called Alimaong be branded as anti-communists when in fact, its high ranking leader is also a Bayan Muna member.

The new twist in the investigation presents another wayward development and an unraveling thread in the propaganda war spun to possibly muddle the investigations, a fact-finding team member admits.

By so doing, those who did this can benefit by gaining an edge in the campaign to smear government in its effort to address what has been insisted as political killings.

The inter-agency Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) fact finding team, led by Capitol-based Romeo Teruel learned of the poser in an interview with Alimaong tribal chieftain, Jaime Tabigue of Bien Unido.

The PPOC team was sent to investigate and gather facts in hopes to enlighten investigating officials of the circumstances behind the Mario Auxilio murder, Bayan Muna secretary general and staunch government critic.

Police said witnesses saw the victim’s close friend Hilario “Larry” Diola shot Auxilio June 15.

After the shooting and eventual death of the victim, Bayan Muna immediately clamored for justice and insisted that the death was one political killing since according to them, the killer was a member of the Alimaong.

Interview transcripts presented by the PPOC team during the recent PPOC meeting revealed that Alimaong Bien Unido tribal chieftain Jaime Tabigue claims his group is not involved in any government anti-communist or anti-insurgency operations.

Tabigue claimed Alimaong is a cultural group (indigenous people) whose primary objective is revival of Filipino values and traits that promote unity and harmony. He also said his group supports the government’s campaign against criminality, protection of marine resources and moral recovery program.

The Bien Unido tribal head said the Auxilio killer was recruited to the Alimaong by Bohol tribal chieftain Antonio Tabada, who is also a known Bayan Muna member.

He added that Alimaong legal counsels include a certain Atty Archival and Atty. Marlon Sayson, who are also legal counsels of the Bayan Muna.

The least that should be put into account is personal motive as how could Bayan Muna claim that the Auxilio murder is political when they and Alimaong share something in common?, a team member asks during an interview. (rachiu/PIA)
