Senator Tito Sotto Plagiarized Speech on Anti-RH Bill
« on: August 17, 2012, 07:39:02 AM »
Senator Tito Sotto's chief of staff on Thursday night admitted that they copied the work of an American blogger in the lawmaker's turno en contra speech on the reproductive health (RH) bill.

Atty. Hector Villacorta, in a message posted on the Facebook page of Sarah Pope, said it was the senator's staff who lifted the content of the blogger's work without attributing it to her.

"I understand you felt slighted that your blog was not attributed to you which became part of the speech of the senator. Let me say that after asking my staff, indeed, your blog was used but only in quoting also from the same book of Dr. Campbell-Mcbride," he said. - report from ABS-CBN

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son (Jesus Christ), that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.

the sad part is that like official letters (once you sign it, it's yours regardless of who wrote the draft) it's SOP in speeches, especially official ones, that once you deliver them, they're yours and you take responsibility for every word you utter.

they say it's a staffer who wrote it.  but of course, it's always that way.  (a rare senator who wrote his own speeches was the late raul manglapus.)  some fall guy must always take the blame.  still it's senator sotto who plagiarized.  too bad, the focus now is his plagiarism and not his stand against the rh bill.

ah, yes, the pro-rh bill will take advantage of this to the maximum; the intent will be to discredit the anti-rh bill caucus because of mr. sotto's current predicament. the opposing side will try its best to deligitimize sotto and , indirectly with him, the anti-rh bill caucus.

shame, really.

Pro-RH people nagkanayon nga plagiarized kono ang speech ni Tito Sotto, and the answer is yes.

But one question, why is it that they are anot answering the issues contained in the speech? When in fact the speech was all about the issue on RH Bill. Yes, nakalimot ug refer sa blog mao na nga natawag ug plagiarized, but the real question is, nagkinahanglan ba ang Pilipinas ug RH Bill? In my opinion, a BIG NO.

Daghan pang speech from Tito Sotto in the coming  Senate sessions. Basin si Miriam Santiago na maoy manampong ani sa dawonggan. ;D

his biggest mistake was to declare, on tv at that, that he didn't plagiarize; blogs aren't subject to plagiarism in his twisted logic---"blogger lang yun".  tua, gisumsoman na hinoon sa mga bloggers.  "senador lang yun", according to one.  unsa na man lang tawon ang iyang utok compared to bloggers like fr joaquin bernas (pro-rh bill) or paul krugman (nobel prizewinner economist)?  yabo.

i'll hazard a look at some difference between your homily and senator sotto's anti-rh bill turno en contra...

your homily is meant to inspire.  it may veer towards reminding the flock about age-old values, those principles and beliefs distilled by both biblical and secular history.  these are no longer debated upon because they have withstood the test of thousands of years.  many more generations will repeat and pass on the same unchanging words about these foundations of our humanity.

your words will never go down in history as on official record of a legislative body where a legislator's official speech is archived as his own, there where it would be on record as the speech that either obliterated or changed the country's reproductive health bill for good or ill.

sotto's speech

...Actually, these contraceptives are not just detrimental to women and the unborn.  They are scientifically proven to have damaging effects to children born from mothers who were using contraceptives prior to their pregnancy too.  According, to Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride MD, the use of the pill also causes severe gut dysbiosis.  What is worse, drug induced gut imbalance is especially intractable and resistant to treatment either with probiotics or diet change. (1) Gut imbalance brought on through use of the pill negatively impacts the ability to digest food and absorb nutrients.  As a result, even if a woman eats spectacularly well during pregnancy, if she has been taking oral contraceptives for a period of time beforehand, it is highly likely that she and her baby are not reaping the full benefits of all this healthy food as the lack of beneficial flora in her gut preclude this from occurring. (2) Pathogenic, opportunistic flora that take hold in the gut when the pill is used constantly produce toxic substances which are the by-products of their metabolism.  These toxins leak into the woman’s bloodstream and they have the potential to cross the placenta.  Therefore, gut dysbiosis exposes the fetus to toxins. (3) Not well known is also the fact that use of the pill depletes zinc in the body. Zinc is called “the intelligence mineral” as it is intimately involved in mental development. (4)

    (1) According, to Dr. Natasha Campbell-McBride MD, use of other drugs such as the Pill also cause severe gut dybiosis. What’s worse, drug induced gut imbalance is especially intractable and resistant to treatment either with probiotics or diet change.

    (2) gut imbalance brought on through use of The Pill negatively impacts the ability to digest food and absorb nutrients. As a result, even if a women eats spectacularly well during pregnancy, if she has been taking oral contraceptives for a period of time beforehand, it is highly likely that she and her baby are not reaping the full benefits of all this healthy food as the lack of beneficial flora in her gut preclude this from occurring.

    (3) Pathogenic, opportunistic flora that take hold in the gut when The Pill is used constantly produce toxic substances which are the by-products of their metabolism. These toxins leak into the woman’s bloodstream and guess what, they have the potential to cross the placenta! Therefore, gut dysbiosis exposes the fetus to toxins.

    (4) Not well known is the fact that use of The Pill depletes zinc in the body. Zinc is called “the intelligence mineral” as it is intimately involved in mental development.

Blogger Sarah Pope demands apology from Senator Sotto

Saturday, 18 August 2012

US-based blogger Sarah Pope demanded an apology from Senator Vicente Sotto III who copied parts of her blog without attribution for his Turno en Contra speech on the controversial Reproductive Health Bill last week.

In a Skype interview with Radyo Inquirer, Pope said, “None of this would have happened if he [Sotto] has the guts, he must be very spineless, to not be able to be man enough to just say ‘I’m sorry.’

“He should take responsibility for his staff as any leader would,” Pope further said.

Sotto’s Chief of Staff Atty. Hector Villacorta admitted that their staff indeed copied parts of Pope’s blog, Healthy Home Economist, but found nothing wrong with what they did and said that ‘blogs are meant to be shared.’

Villacorta posted a comment on Pope’s blog: "I understand you felt slighted that your blog was not attributed to you which became part of the speech of the senator."

"Let me say that after asking my staff, indeed your blog was used but only in quoting also from the same book of Dr. Campbell-Mcbride."

Sotto earlier denied plagiarizing Pope and earned the ire of bloggers with his comment, "why should I quote a blogger? Blogger lang siya."

In a post on her Facebook page, Pope said, "Nice touch Senator. You almost had me convinced you were a nice guy with the tears and all. Many of your citizenry have emailed me assuring me that it was a put on, and I'm starting to think they are right."

"A thief is a thief, Mr. Senator. Denying it doesn't get you off the hook; it just makes you a lying thief," she added.

Pope said she will not sue or take legal actions about the issue.

Filipino bloggers launched an online petition demanding sanction against Sotto.

Hmm, if we should let sleeping dogs lie, what should we let lying thieves do? ::)
